St Brendan’s Park FC u9s had a hectic schedule on Saturday as we traveled to Fenit to play against Fenit Samphires. Due to our squad size we took 20 players and left as many again at home as they prepare to face Camp Juniors next Saturday.
The 2 teams that went to Fenit played 2 matches against the hosts. We played the 7v7 format which worked very well. Both clubs enjoyed the afternoon. The players displayed great skill and determination in the 4 matches played on a cold December afternoon.
The attitude from all players was exceptional and the players are a credit to themselves and their clubs. Many thanks to Fenit for inviting us out to play.
Meanwhile earlier on the same day the remainder of our u9 squad enjoyed a fantastic training session at Christy Leahy Park working on the 7v7 format.
The players practiced well and will be in great shape for their trip to Camp next week. More matches will follow after Christmas and we all look forward to seeing this group of players continuing their hard work into 2018 and beyond.
Under Eleven(2007)
Two challenge games were played against Camp last Saturday. Special mention goes to Eugene Nguessan and Max Nosidlak on man of the match performances in centre mid and right back respectively.
Also well done to Richard Casey on a very stready debut in goals. Thanks to the Camp players and mentors for providing us with two evenly matched games. The skills and sportsmanship on display by both sets of players was fantastic
Under Twelve(2006)
Our U12 A and B teams are both in action this weekend with our A team heading to Limerick to face Rathkeale AFC in the fourth round of the Skechers SFAI Cup.
It should be a fiercely contested game with both teams hoping to head into the open draw in the last thirty two of the competition. Our B team host Ballyhar U12B in Christy Leahy Park and will hope to continue their good form coming off the back of some good results of late. All support is greatly appreciated.
Under Thirteen (2005)
St Brendans Park FC 2 – 0 Shelbourne AFC
The Park under 13 squad progressed to the last 32 in the National Cup after extra time against Shelobourne AFC of Limerick, the visit of Shelbourne provided a step up in class from the previous rounds and required the full squad to deliver a quality performance on the day.
The first half saw us dominate proceedings which stemmed from a very strong defensive performance by Sean McElligott, Ray McGrath and Obina Izehi.
This provided Michael Tansley with a platform to run the match from midfield with a fine display of passing both short and long as well as switching the point of attack that caused the opposition huge problems.
The selfless running of both fullbacks Luke Casey and Adam McDonagh meant that there was plenty of supply of ball to our two strikers Darragh Cunnane and Venis Jahiri as well as for the late runs into the box of Odhran Ferris and captain Callum O`Sullivan.
Richard Healy’s performance in goals was assured which provided great confidence for the outfield players to go and preform. A comment after the match from the Shelbourne management team of ” there must have been a magnet in them goals” summed up the first half but unfortunately we just did not capitalize on this dominance.
The second half followed the same pattern as the first with us having the lions share of the position. The second half also saw Shelbourne up their game and this provided a few chances for them which was dealt with by our keeper and defensive unit in a very professional manner.
The second half saw the introduction of Cian O`Gara for Michael Tansley, Cian’s introduction was to cause different problems for Shelbourne with his direct running and hard tackling. Jamie O`Shea was introduced for Callum O’Sullivan. Callum at this point had as they say “emptied the tank” for the cause. Jamies work rate provide a lift to the team at this point in the game.
With the clock ticking down Noah Townsend was brought in for Darragh Cunnane. Noah`s direct running at the opposition looked as if we could get a result in normal time but Shelbourne stood firm and seemed happy to see the game to extra time.
Extra time saw us break the dead lock, the runs been made in-behind the Shelbourne defense paid off as Noah Townsend’s pace saw him break free from the defensive attention he was getting from Shelbourne but as he bore down on their goal a late tackle from behind stopped him in his tracks on the edge of the box.
The resulting free struck by Odhran Ferris gave the team a lead they fully deserved just before half time in extra time.
During the half time break some of the players talked of been in a similar situation last year and they collectively drew on this experience and resolved to see it out this time to the end, this shows a great maturity in lads so young.
Their resolve not alone saw them see the game out to the end but also seen Noah Townsend get our second goal of the game. This goal was well deserved for the team as they had worked tirelessly all day for each other.
Thanks to Shelbourne for been part of a very entertaining game for the supporters and we wish them well in their remaining league games.
To the team behind the team a big thank you for looking after our visitors, with sandwiches, teas, coffees and hot chocolates.
Squad on the day.
Richard Healy, Luke Casey, Darragh Cunnane, Odhran Ferris, Obina Izehi , Venis Jahiri, Adam McDonagh, Sean McElligott, Ray McGrath, Cian O’Gara, Jamie O’Shea, Callum O’Sullivan, Michael Tansley and Noah Townsend.
Man Of The Match; Sean McElligott
Our thirteen B team traveled to MEK in the league on Saturday. Having gone one nil up through Conor Cronin, MEK fought back to equalise. At one each we had a great opportunity to take the lead when we were awarded a penalty but the joy was short lived as we missed the penalty. Conor soon doubled his own goal tally and to put us back in the driving seat with a well timed finish. With time running out MEK equalised again and the game finished a two all draw.
Under Fourteen(2004)
Our under fourteen host Killarney Celtic in the Skechers SFAI Cup in Christy Leahy Park this Saturday in what should be a cracking game of football. All support is welcome, kick off is at twelve o’clock, extra time and penalties if necessary.
Under Fifteen (2003)
Our U15A travelled to Ennis Co. Clare to face Tulla United in the Skechers SFAI Cup on Sunday and were narrowly beaten on penalties. The game finished level at full time with our lads shading the game but were unable to break down the hosts. Deep in the second half extra time Tulla took the lead from a corner but the lads showed great character to equalise through Cian Brosnan to bring the game to penalties. We end up losing 4-3 on penalties. Great team performance all round and very unlucky to not to be going into the open draw. Hard luck boys you did the club proud.

Parks David Oba was involved and provided the assist with three of the goals.Park went in at the break with a narrow lead two goals to one courtesy of Seb Vasiu and Colin Walsh.
The second half was a one sided affair with Parks Leon Shalemba scoring goal of the match with a thirty yards screamer and Jordan Barry finishing the scoring.
