World Sports Team:

Last Wednesday in Dublin marked the official launch of World Sports Team, a volunteer-driven non-profit organisation on a mission to provide sportspeople across the world with a supportive network. This is the brainchild of former St Pats player Eamonn Sayers who has put a tremendous amount of work over the last number of years developing the concept. Eamonn said: “World Sports Team is the team every sportsperson supports. We aim to provide those who suffer catastrophic injury playing sport with a willing hand to help them through whatever difficulties they face. My cousin suffered a catastrophic injury playing sport and from my experiences I realised there has to be a better way of supporting fellow sportspeople. I do not want any family to have to go through what we went through then. Ireland has given many gifts to the sporting world and we hope this can be another one that benefits people the world over.” Eamonn is looking for people to join World Sports Team for visting their websitewww.worldsportsteam.org  , liking the Facebook page, www.fb.com/ WorldSportsTeam or following the team on twitter @WorldSportsTeam, using the hashtag #JointheTeam.

Curraheen Community Council:

Curraheen Community Council would like to thank all those who attended an open meeting on Tuesday November 25th last. We would also like to thank Garda Irene Riordan who gave some very good advice on steps we can take to help prevent crime in our homes, James Kelliher and Tom O Shea Chartered Accountants from Castleisland, both of whom held a very informative discussion on various financial topics as well as the importance of making a will, and Peter, a representative of TASK, providers of personal monitored alarms, for his demonstration on how these alarms work. He feels that one is assured of peace of mind and personal security at the touch of a button by having an alarm installed. He also gave very brief details of other types of monitors and detectors on the market, for example Wandering Person Alert for a loved one with dementia, a Medication Dispenser which reminds you to take important pills, a Bogus Caller Button at your front door helping you feel secure, or a Bed Exit Monitorproviding early warning that a family member has not returned to their bed during the night and may have fallen, as well as Carbon Monoxide Detectors, Smoke Detectors and more. These items will notify staff at the monitoring Response Centre enabling them to react quickly to the situation and provide reassurance that help is on the way. Any of these alarms can be purchased personally by the interested individual. However, grants for personal monitored alarms are available to those over the age of 65 who live alone or with another person over the age of 65. For more information do not hesitate to contact Jackie on 066-7130126 or Debbie 066-7129570.

The club would like to extend its sympathy to the family and friends of Eileen Bynane, Camp; to juvenile coach Raphael Crowley on the passing of his aunt and also to the Moriarty & O’Brien families. May They Rest In Peace
