Club Chairman Pa Carey thanked the club committee, players, coaches and managers for their service this season.

He commended the efforts of the fundraising committee and the tournament organising team that put in a huge effort to ensure the many tournaments and blitzes throughout the season ran smoothly and successfully. He also made special mention of the many sponsors for their valuable and continued support for the club this year.

The club now looks forward to next season and especially 2024 when it celebrates its 30th anniversary since its foundation in 1994.

The club is also planning to have the Annual Mass and AGM next month and members and friends will be informed of the details in the coming weeks.

IT’S been a great season for basketball in Tralee and a local club looked back on the year at its annual awards on Thursday night.

There was a big crowd in The Rose Hotel as Tralee Imperials players received awards with three Tralee Warriors, Daire Kennelly, Eoin Quigley and Darragh O’Hanlon also present.

“We’ve had a good year with numbers up and new coaches on the scene,” said Vice-Chairperson Helen Pierse. “It’s all about building and developing our players. The Warriors success on a national stage is certainly helping.”

Highlights of the year included the Girls U13 and U17 teams winning the County Cup competition, the Girls U14 got to the County final, the U18 side got to the quarter-finals of the National Cup for the first time and the U20 team competed in the Cork League, finishing in 4th place.

It was also an occasion to present a cheque for €1,875 to the Kerry Hospice Foundation thanks to fundraising efforts in the club.

A good year then and — with the level of interest in basketball in the town — even better ones are sure to come for Tralee Imperials. Scroll down for photos…

OVER 150 people gathered in The Rose Hotel on Friday night as a local club dished out awards to youngsters after another great year on the courts.

Tralee Imperials Basketball Club’s juveniles enjoyed a great year explained John Dowling.

“At underage level, we had a very successful year. The under 14 girls are just back from Belfast where they finished second in the B competition – one of our players Rachel Kilgallen got MVP there. So underage we’ve had good success, we’ve been working hard.

“The Under 18 boys won the league and cup double, which was our first Division 1 double and we also got to the All-Ireland quarter-final. Our academy is thriving with over 140 kids under the age of 10 playing. Indeed, in the town in general, basketball is on the way back with St Brendan’s doing great as well and we’re just trying to play our part in that,” said John.

It was also an occasion to handover a cheque to Kerry Hospice after fundraising events held by the club over the year, including some proceeds from their fashion show last autumn.

“On behalf of Kerry Hospice, I want to thank Tralee Imperials for choosing Kerry Hospice as their charity and we’re very appreciative of their fundraising efforts,” said Breda Barry of Kerry Hospice.
