Garry’s nephew Garrett was on hand to collect the award on his behalf. Garry is one of seven finalists who will go forward to the Grand Final at the RDS Concert Hall Dublin 4 on Wednesday November 21.

The winner will be crowned the ‘Pub personality of the year’. This category acknowledges an outstanding individual in the pub who has a friendly and obliging character which contributes to the customers’ overall positive experience in the pub.

An impressive resume preceeded Garry O’Donnell before eventually going on to establish Baily’s Corner in 1984.

After acquiring a vast knowledge about the hotel, food and beverge industry working throughout Europe, the Middle East, South Africa and London Garry eventually came home to Kerry where he managed two very prominent hotels in the Kingdom.

This gave Garry the know how and insight needed to create a legacy that is not only a thriving business but also a focal point in the wider community.

The review goes on to say that “at Baily’s Corner you can enjoy samplings from their famous Irish whiskey selection whilst listening traditional Irish music sessions by local musicians every night of the week. There is plenty to ‘See Inside’ with hidden nooks and corners, and walls covered with old photos of the bar, Rugby memorabilia and tradition Irish decoration.”

Introduced in Tralee in March, Google Maps Business View is a new digital marketing tool designed with its ‘See Inside’ 360 Virtual Tour giving customers the chance to explore and interact directly from their computer, smartphone or tablet and allows any business to showcase their store, restaurant, hotel, office or showroom to the world.

Tralee businesses who take on the new Google service will allow customers to view their premises while using Street View.

After you’ve contacted Google, they will have your premises photographed with a panoramic camera similar to the one used on Street View and then add a 3D tour online.

BAILY’S Corner was flying the flag for Kerry last night at the Irish Bar Of The Year Awards ceremony in Dublin.

The Tralee bar was the only Kerry pub to feature in the contest this year, being nominated in the Country category of the awards, where there were eight other nominees.

Alas, they didn’t win.

“There were 6,000 bars who entered for the awards so we were chuffed to be nominated. It was a great night anyway,” said Conor O’Donnell from Baily’s.

The ceremony was held in the Double Tree Hilton Hotel in Ballsbridge and Fitzpatrick’s Bar and Restaurant in Louth won the Country category in which Baily’s was nominated.
