THE pupils in a Ballyheigue school have won an award at a film festival in Limerick.
St. Joseph’s N.S., Bouleenshere, Ballyheigue won Best Concept at Ireland’s Junior Young Filmmaker of the year Awards at the FreshFilmFestival.
Their film, ‘A Little Help’ was made by 2nd and 3rd class pupils and it’s the second time they’ve won the award after ‘The Chase’ took the prize in 2016 .
‘A Little Help’ tells the very moving story of a young girl (played by Andrea Lynch ) who is excluded from games and is not allowed to play or make friends because she is different to the ‘cool kids’.

The young girl finds a doll, or the doll finds her, and things begin to change for the better as the girl has a friend in the doll .
In the young girl’s mind the doll is real and becomes her friend. When the doll comes to life (played by Saoirse Hanlon ) we see the young girl having fun and really coming into herself .
Other children, who are not part of the cool set, see her playing with the doll and they befriend her, thus finding real friends who accept her.
The children formulated the idea for this film over long periods of brain storming, discussion and planning in the class. The children scripted, storyboarded and shot the film unaided. This is the school’s 12th year making films for various competitions.
Shannon Drury (3rd class) was the director on set and all the actors performed to a high standard. Have a look at the results below…
