TRALEE Chamber Alliance has encouraged the elected members of the Tralee Municipal District to place a greater emphasis on supporting businesses in the town’s retail and hospitality sectors before the local elections in May.
The Chamber said the local authority needs to revisit, in collaboration with Tralee Chamber Alliance, the recommendations and concerns raised by 23 businesses on The Mall/Bridge Street area that were submitted to Kerry County Council last August.
It followed a meeting between Tralee Chamber Alliance and 23 representatives from the two streets to discuss the impacts (positive and negative) the current utilisation of the streets had on their businesses.

The meeting was also aimed at identifying specific supportive actions which could be undertaken by Kerry County Council, with the support of Tralee Chamber Alliance, to improve and sustain the businesses in the area.
When surveyed, 15 of the 23 businesses voted in favour of retaining a part-pedestrianised format, albeit with further consultation being required, whilst eight businesses of the 23 opposed any form of pedestrianisation.
In addition to the above, all 23 businesses collectively called for a number of measures to be considered relating to deliveries, Taxis, set-down spaces and signage.
Tralee Chamber Alliance has already held positive follow-up discussions with Kerry County Council in relation to the points that arose from last August’s meeting with the local businesses.
With the local elections approaching in May, Tralee Chamber Alliance invites the incumbent and new candidates to engage with business owners in the interest of sustaining employment in the retail and hospitality sectors in the town centre.
