Three Kerry Projects To Receive Over €240,000 In Funding

THREE Kerry projects have been allocated over €240,000 in funding under this year’s Community Monuments Fund.

Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform, Malcolm Noonan, TD, today announced the award of €8 million in funding for 140 archaeological heritage projects throughout the country as part of the Department’s Community Monuments Fund for 2023.

This year’s fund represents an increase of 33% over last year’s allocation, with €243,673 being awarded to three projects in Kerry.

The Kerry projects are;

• €97,320 in funding under Stream 1 for Castleisland Castle
• €55,900 in funding under Stream 1 for Cill Buaine
• €90,453 in funding under Stream 1 for Killagh Priory

The core objective of the Community Monuments Fund is to support the conservation, maintenance, protection, and promotion of local monuments and historic sites, in alignment with the aims of the Government’s new heritage plan, Heritage Ireland 2030, and the Climate Change Sectoral Adaptation Plan.

€106,355 For Kerry Projects Under Community Monuments Fund

THREE Kerry projects will receive €106,355 between them from the Community Monuments Fund.

The Community Monuments Fund aims to enable important conservation works to be carried out on archaeological monuments which are deemed to be significant and in need of urgent support.

The funding will go to Ballinskelligs Castle  (€77,705); Castleisland Castle (€21,516) and Cloghane Churches (€7,134).

This tranche of funding will specifically improve access to archaeological monuments and improve their presentation while also build resilience in archaeological monuments enabling them to withstand the effects of climate change.

The funding has been welcomed by Minister for Education Norma Foley and Kerry Fine Gael Deputy Brendan Griffin.
