Events Planned In Tralee For ‘Culture Day’ This Easter

AS part of Creative Ireland, the new cultural initiative aimed at promoting wellbeing and participation through creativity, an annual ‘Culture Day’ will get its first outing this coming Easter Monday, April 17.

Events are taking place across the country, including Kerry.  Kerry County Council, working in partnership with the creative sector in Kerry, is delivering an event in each Municipal District.

In Tralee, at Siamsa Tíre visitors will be able to enjoy Beautiful Beasts, an exhibition of sculpture for children, presented by The Ark.

Visitors can interpret the exhibition in their own way (drawing materials are provided) and include their artwork in the exhibition. Artists will facilitate creative workshops on the day!

Bold as Brass Workshops with Mary Curran will have an emphasis on fun and music making, suitable for children of all ages and ability.  Songs, music and vignettes by members of the National Folk Theatre will take place at intervals throughout the day. Times 11-3pm.

Also in Tralee, Kerry County Museum is hosting free events from 11am to 1pm. There will be free admission to its upstairs galleries including Casement in Kerry, Museum Gallery and Tom Crean Room; harpist entertainment by Piano Express in the Museum Foyer and an Easter storytelling event for families in English (11am-12pm)and Irish (12pm to 1pm).

In Listowel, Listowel Writers Week is hosting a Riverside Walk by The Feale from 11am to 1pm, commencing at the Seanchaí Centre where an introduction and a short performance by actors will take place. Along the river route there will be readings, poetry and more drama from a selection of the works of renowned Kerry writers.  The walk will finish at the Seanchaí Centre with the opening of an art exhibition from Visual Artists, Colourful Sprits.

In Dingle, Other Voices will work with artist Áine Ní Chíobháin on an event called Lúmina. Áine will curate a light art and music event in conjunction with local schools and performers (workshops already underway!). This will involve a series of workshops culminating in an exhibition of projections and light sculptures with live musical performance on Easter Monday. 4pm and 8pm start times.

In Killarney, Muckross Schoolhouse will celebrate music for all ages at the Traditional Farms on the Muckross Estate, Killarney from 2pm- 4pm with Ger Wolf who will give a musical workshops, using a variety of musical instruments, suitable for all age! Ger will also deliver a music performance. Later in the evening at 7.30pm Jimmy Crowley in will be in concert, this event is free with seating capacity 200, further information 064 6630804.
