Kerry Month Of Enterprise Launched

NOW in its ninth year, Kerry Month of Enterprise (KMOE) takes place during the month of March.

KMOE, a collaborative inter-agency initiative, aims to shine a spotlight on just some of the enterprise activities on offer all year round across Kerry and remind businesses in Kerry of the wide range of supports available to them, especially at this challenging time.

The month is designed and delivered by a partnership including Munster Technological University, Kerry County Council, Kerry Local Enterprise Office, Enterprise Ireland, North, East & West Kerry Development; South Kerry Partnership Development, IDA, Udarás na Gaeltachta, IRD Duhallow and various companies and organisations throughout the county.

The month gives established businesses and budding entrepreneurs an opportunity to network and discover the assistance available to them in growing and sustaining a business in Kerry. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted just how important it is for business owners to access the supports available to them within their own region.

The calendar of events for 2022, which can be viewed at www.kmoe.ie, includes over 80 events across the month. The county-wide events cater for businesses at various stages of development across many sectors from start-ups to established and growing businesses. All events musted be booked in advance.

Launching Kerry Month of Enterprise, Minister for Education Norma Foley TD, said: “Kerry is a county with entrepreneurship in its DNA and never has it been more important to support our business community. In its ninth year Kerry Month of Enterprise has grown year after year, from a small calendar of about 20 events in 2013 to over 80 events this year.

“Kerry Month of Enterprise celebrates excellence in enterprise and shines a light on the activities that are ongoing throughout the year and the value that the partners involved bring to our county. Congratulations to all involved.”

Highlights of the calendar of events for Kerry Month of Enterprise include a series of virtual “Start Your Own Business” focused workshops hosted by the Kerry Local Enterprise Office, focused on branding, food business and sales and marketing, among others.

Udarás na Gaeltachta will host sessions on how to boost online presence in a post-pandemic world and managing remote workers and SKDP, IRD Duhallow and NEWKD will host a number of events focused on supports including a Governance for Social Enterprises and Accounting for New Small Businesses.

Munster Technological University will once again play host to the Kerry Start-up Challenge, New Frontiers Showcase, and a host of other events aimed at developing entrepreneurial mindset and enterprise creation.

The Leas-Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Michael Cahill said: ‘A great deal of time and effort has gone into arranging a wide range of events over the coming weeks with the diversity of the business sector in Kerry to the fore. I want to thank the many agencies involved for bringing together and exciting and engaging programme.’

Kerry County Council Chief Executive Moira Murrell encouraged participation in the wide range of events: “The Kerry Month of Enterprise is a great opportunity, particularly at this challenging time, for businesses to engage with each other and the supports on offer from a wide range of agencies and I encourage anyone in business to take part.”

Bríd McElligott, Vice President Research, Development & External Engagement at Munster Technological University said: “The COVID19 pandemic has reinforced the need for supports for all industry sector within the Kerry region. Kerry Month of Enterprise offers a comprehensive spotlight during the month of March highlighting the various supports and initiatives that are available throughout the year. As we prepare for a post-covid business environment, we want to show-case the supports that are available to ensure that Kerry’s economic recovery is maximised in as short a timeframe as possible.”

‘Making It Happen’ For Kerry Businesses During Enterprise Week

AN Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar T.D. has launched the full programme of events for Local Enterprise Week, which is taking place online from Monday, March 1 to Friday, March 5.

‘Making It Happen’ is the theme of Local Enterprise Week, organised by Local Enterprise Office Kerry and more than 200 virtual events are planned by the Local Enterprise Offices around the country.

This includes Local Enterprise Office Kerry with training workshops, information webinars and masterclasses with entrepreneurs and experts, designed to help Ireland’s small businesses and those looking to start a new business in 2021.

Common topics across the week include starting a new business, resilience and recovery, the green economy, becoming ‘leaner’, exploring new markets, doing business online and the new trading relationship with the UK.

For the first time, Local Enterprise Week also includes ten ‘Spotlight’ events and these are open to every business across the country.

This event also ties in with Kerry Month Of Enterprise 2021 – which is now in its 8th year. Kerry Month of Enterprise (KMOE) is a month long series of events that gives existing businesses and budding entrepreneurs the opportunity to connect, network and discover the supports available as they grow sustainable businesses in Kerry.

The month is a collaborative initiative supported by Munster Technological University, Tom Crean Busines Centre, Kerry County Council, Kerry Local Enterprise Office, Enterprise Ireland, North, East & West Kerry Development (NEWKD), South Kerry Partnership Development (SKDP), IRD Duhallow, IDA Ireland, and Údarás na Gaeltachta.

Highlights from Local Enterprise Week are expected to include: Sales & Marketing Masterclass, How to get started with LEAN, Topical HR & Employment Law update, Safefood.et Small business supports and Starting a food business in Kerry.

Tomas Hayes, Head of Local Enterprise Office Kerry said: “Small businesses throughout Kerry are being severely impacted by Covid-19 restrictions and many haven’t been able to trade fully since last year. That’s why initiatives like Local Enterprise Week are more important than ever as they showcase all the supports that are available to small businesses and start-ups now. As well as the ten ‘Spotlight’ events, we are offering a full programme of events over the five days of Local Enterprise Week. TY Students Make A Plan For Tralee As Part Of Enterprise Month

TRALEE’S future workforce, decision-makers and employers have joined together with Tralee Chamber Alliance during Enterprise Month to outline their big ideas for the county capital.

Throughout Enterprise Month, Transition Year students from Tralee will formulate their big ideas and opinions on what developments they believe should take place in their town and what kind of business or activities they would like to see in Tralee.

The President of Tralee Chamber Alliance, John Drummey, said: “It only takes one good idea to create a success story and we are confident that the future success of Tralee lies in the safe hands of today’s youth. We want the Transition Years students to show us their entrepreneurial skills and to tell us about their ideas on what they would like to do with their town now and into the future. Tralee Chamber Alliance continually strives to lead growth and foster pride, and collaborations such as this with the TY students will certainly help us all achieve that goal.”

The TY students will present their ‘big ideas’ to a panel of judges, consisting of business owners from Tralee and members of Tralee Chamber Alliance in Room S114, IT Tralee (North Campus) at 2pm on Monday, March 20.

Now in its 4th year, ‘Enterprise Month’ continues to shine a spotlight on just some of the enterprise activities on offer all year round across the County of Kerry.

The final two weeks of the month are hosted by IT Tralee and the month ends with the Cantillon Conference, this year themed ‘Building Borderless Business’, which focuses on fintech and cyber security. Tickets are available to purchase now at www.cantillon.ie.
