REPORTS

(U15) Premier ; Killarney Celtic A 0-3 Park A

Park U-15As played their first league game of the season, away to Killarney Celtic on Monday 29th September. From the kick off Park imposed themselves on the game and were unlucky not to score early on when a fine effort from Michael Slattery came back off the crossbar with the keeper beaten. Park were very dominant in midfield in the early exchanges and chances were presenting themselves.

Thomas Burke, Michael Slattery and Sean Carmody all went close before Park finally opened their account in the 12th minute. Michael Slattery crossed from the left and when the Killarney keeper failed to deal with the cross Michael O’Gara was on hand to force the ball over the line by the smallest of margins. Park pressed time after time and with their defence proving very capable in dealing with the Celtic attack another goal looked inevitable.

Poor decision making from the Park lads and some stout defending from the Killarney defence meant that the goal didn’t come until the 34th minute. Again it was that man Michael Slattery on the end of a Sean Carmody through ball. This time his finish was emphatic and he gave the Killarney custodian no chance. 2-0 up at half time but it as should have been more.

A few early chances went a begging for Park early in the second half but due to tiring legs Killarney Celtic began to get a foothold on the game. Our defence, which hadn’t been overly tested in the first half were now called into action in a serious way. Michéal Devlin from Celtic was getting more and more of the ball on the right wing and the contest between him and Adam Ward from the Park turned into a great duel.

Devlin’s pace certainly caused Park problems but Ward’s doggedness and determination was outstanding and he was instrumental in ensuring clear shots at goal were few and far between. Gearoid Fitzgerald continued to show why he is one of Kerry’s up and coming goalkeeping stars with some timely interventions and superb handling. As Killarney threw everything at Park, James Rusk, Dylan Casey, Matt Lukco, Sean Carmody,Kevin Browne, Michael O’Gara and substitute Ruairi O’Kelly were working their socks off to ensure that while Celtic had the majority of possession they had very few clear chances on goals.

Park had a number of chances on the break which they failed to convert but one could put this down to first game rustiness. Robin McCarthy replaced the hard working Niall Sertutxa and with a little bit more match practice he would surely have converted on a number of occasions. Dan Goggin made his competitive debut for Park and for a young man who was still recovering from a chest infection he had a superb 15 minute cameo.

John Ward and Jake Deering made late appearances on the field and in the 80th minute the 3rd goal finally came. It was somewhat fortuitous for the Park. A long ball from Matt Lukco forced a mix up between the Killarney keeper and his defence and this ended up with one of the Killarney lads putting the ball into his own net. A good, if understandably rusty, start to the season for our lads.

The effort put in by all the players was outstanding and if they keep training hard there is no reason why this cannot be a successful season. There is some excellent competition for places, Raul Venzel was an unused substitute due to a knee injury, and there are a number of other players who could still force their way into the squad. We also have the experienced Paudie Barrett now back in the fold and offering his words of wisdom on the sideline which is a great support to everyone. Many thanks to the parents who drove to Killarney and to those who offered to do so.

Your help is greatly appreciated by the team and management. We will have a challenge game or training on Sunday next as we have a bye in the first round of the National Cup. We play the winners of the Aisling Annacotty vs Tralee Dynamos tie. We want all tickets for the FAI draw returned this weekend. Please make a special effort to sell your allocation as this will help kick start the club’s drive for a full size all-weather pitch to rival the facilities we played on on Monday night. Thank you to those who have already returned theirs.

(U15) Div 1 ; Park B 11-3 Iveragh United

This was our first game of the season and we got off to a fantastic start Connor Higgins opened the score for the park in the first minute ,Aarron takes a shot but the keeper makes a save . Park put the pressure on and from a free kick by Shane Nemanja scores his first goal. Dylan then puts in a great cross and Nemanja rounds a player and puts the ball in the net 3-0,A pass from Sean to Nemanja who passes to Connor rounds a player and puts it in the back of the net 4-0 It’s Park all the way and it’s not long before Nemanja gets his hatrick 5-0 Iveragh had an attack on the Park goal but is saved by keeper Diarmuid .

A bit of fancy footwork by Jamel sees his shot deflected for a corner ,James o,conner takes it and the ball is passed around and back out to James who puts it in the back of the net 6-0.Shane has a shot on goal but it’s going wide and Josh keeps it in and crosses it into the box and Edward scores 7-0. Jack beats a player and slots a pass into David Oba who scores 8-0 Park mount another attack passing the ball around Jack heads the ball onto David Oba who does a bicycle kick into the back of the net to make it 9-0 goal of the season so far. Second half and Park are on fire and with a nice bit of footwork Jamel finally gets his well deserved goal 10-0.

Fair play to Iveragh they kept their heads up and were rewarded with a goal 10-1, Mike Lacey has a shot on goal but the keeper makes a save .Sean puts the ball across the goal but Shane rounds a player shoots and goes wide.

Iveragh mount an attack and with a few passes the ball ends up in the back of the net 10-2 John Ward takes a shot but the keeper makes a great save to deny a goal Iveragh come back again with one of their rare attacks and score making it 10-3 just when we think it’s all over Shane gets the ball on the edge of the box rounds a couple of players and this time makes sure his shot is on target and ends the game 11-3.

This was a brilliant performance by the Park and great to see so many different scorers but it’s going to be a long season so let’s hope that we can maintain the winning ways.it was a team effort today and both Dave and myself were pleased with the way the players gave each other support and it paid off so well done lads. Today’s team was Diarmuid, jack, Josh, James, Dylan, Sean ,Connor, Nemanja, David, Edward, Craig, Aarron , Shane, , Jamel, John, Mike M.O.M. was Connor Higgins.

(U14) Div.2 ; Listowel Celtic C 5-3 St Brendans Park B

A great Morning for a game, spirits were high. We went out with the feeling of winning today, we got tip and off we went passing the ball but wasn’t long before Listowel Celtec scored, and again and again and again 4-0 within 20 minutes. Listowel had a strong team. We managed to get one back with a pass through from Samson to Carl (Cj) who had a battle but got through the defence and drove it into the top corner 4-1.

Both teams were still battling then Mark was able to get through and heading towards the Listowel goal kept his cool and placed it into the right hand corner to make it 4-2 which stayed till half time.

Second half we made a couple of changes, we went out having a great second half play soccer how it should be, Tony had the ball on the Left wing and from 20 yards out placed the ball in the back of the Listowel goal 4-3. We kept Listowel at bay and we tried to hard to equalize and with Listowel on the attack again, they drove the ball towards our goal which was a certainty and with a good stop on the line by Daniel got the ball out but unfortunately hit against Joe our keeper and went into our net 5-3. As i said,

Listowel had a strong team and was able to keep our chances out and with two narrow misses from Mark. Both Teams played great, well done too both. Final score 5-3. Well done lads. Players: Joe Hanafin,Richard O’Brien,Brian Teahan,Cillian Ryan, Daniel Fox-Seang,Samson Ayavi (Capt),Harris Ismail,Jack Murphy, Tony Duggan, Mark Dziedziuch,Carl(Cj)Dziedziuch, Tennyson Efgbare, Josh Hayes,Luke Murphy, Thomas Eniola and Alex Rogojchin. Man of the Match: Samson Ayavi.

(U14) Div 2 ; Park B 11-0 Tralee Dynamos B

Not a bad day weather wise for a game, we had a slow start all lads were excited playing good soccer from both sides, someone had to break the ice. Dynamo’s had a goal kick which Mark headed it to Samson who laid it on to Jack who set Mark up to slip it into the right corner 1-0, time to rock and roll. With Samson in midfield and Richard got the ball to Jack who took on the Dynamo’s defence and placed it into the corner of the goal 2-0.

Our defence was outstanding with Josh, Brian, Daniel and Cillian kept the Dynamo’s at bay with a nice pass from Josh to Tony who then had a strike from the corner of the box which went into the right corner of the net 3-0, passing the ball around Mark got the ball too Tony who then brought it into the Dynamo’s box to Mark who was in the right place to receive the ball from Tony and placed it into the right corner once again. 4-0 Half time .

Second half we came out blazing, passing the ball and a few confrontations from the Dynamos we started to get back into the game, passing the ball around from defence to wings with a nice pass from Tony into the box and a neat header from Mark into the top of the net 5-0. Dynamos had another attack but yet again our defence was too strong with Daniel and Thomas keeping the Dynamo’s out playing the ball to Samson who was like a steam train going through the Dynamo’s midfield and defence setting Mark up who placed the ball into the top corner 6-0.

We then had a few changes in positions, passing the ball about Daniel had a strike and with a deflection of the Dynamo’s defence sent it into the net 7-0. We had another attack on goal with a nice pass yet again from Josh to Tony who sent it to Brian who then placed the ball into the net 8-0. We kept calm and Samson was determind to score but set Tony up for number 9, 9-0.Park dominated the field and with Carl (Cj) setting Tennyson up who took a strike and into the back of the net it went 10-0.

With a few nice passes Samson got the ball ploughed through the midfield and defence to put the ball into the back of the net. At last 11-0. Well done lads, Motm: Daniel Fox-Seang . Players: Joe,Josh,Brian,Daniel,Cillian,Samson(Capt) Richard,Tony,Harris,Mark,Jack,Carl(Cj),Tennyson,Luke and Thomas.
Once again, well done lads. Proud off you all.

(U13) SFAI Cup : Tralee Dynamos 0 – 3 Park FC

This was the 1st competitive game of the new season and what a better motivator than a local derby match against our neighbours Tralee Dynamos in the 1st Round of the National Cup. The Park lads were coming off a sucessful series of preseason friendlies with Dynamos looking for revenge from a 1/4 K-cup defeat last season. The Park lads were playing into a stiff breeze and made a good positive, composed start to the game creating a few half chances for the front men of Mervyn & Sean. The centre midfield pairing of colin and junior were battling hard in front of the back four with incisive pasing out wide with Mervyn tireless working both wings and thru the centre as the link man to the No 9 Sean who was making his compeditive debut for the Park.

Both wingers Nathan and Liam were working the lines beautifully, tracking back constantly to support the full backs of Darragh and Rhys. It was a tough affair but the Park lads were creating the better chances and you felt a goal was going to come and 8 mins in Mervyn became the provider with a dinky lob over the dynamos defence into Sean who placed a delicate chip over the keeper to back of the net, 1-0 up and this was the tonic the park needed, now playing with confidence and creating further chances from Nathan and Colin.

To be fair to Dynamos they battled hard and were creating chances of their own from the main threat on right wing Sean kennedy, but the park central defence of Cian & Kevin (also making his debut in a Park shirt) and left full back Rhys were equal to the challenge with Darragh providing good cover and all four defended their lines with great authority. It looked like it was going to be 1-0 to park at half time but mervin had other ideas and 3 mins to half time it took the ball from defence on the right and after a 60yd run fired the ball from right outside the box to beat the keeper with Sean smashing the ball to the back of the net ensuring a 2-0 lead to the Park. 2mins later on the stroke of halftime nathan whipped a pinpoint cross from the right to Liam who had ran into centre who slid the ball across the box to Sean, one on one with the keeper, only outcome was a goal, 3-0 to the Park at the break.

A great sporting gesture as Sean . With a 3 goal advantage The Park were brimming with confidence and carried on thru the 2nd half as they had finished the 1st half with a swagger that created a lot of chances but failed to convert. Dynamos were always a threat from set pieces particularily in the 2 nd half and were close to scoring a couple of times but the park defence were resilient and working hard to clear their lines and with Gavin on top form in goals it was a titanic achievement to keep a clean sheet against the league champions.

Conor came on up front with Greg on the left to add another dimension as the Park tried to close out the game. Defensive changes were made with Tide & Elliot coming into fullback positions to give fresh legs to relieve a tireless display from Rhys/Darragh. Nathan H made his debut coming in to central defence for Cian who had been a rock through out the game. 3- 0 the final score and a deserved win for the Park team who battled hard in all sectors of the pitch and are rewarded with a 2nd round match at home v Abbeyfeale FC.

Team sport has a habit of bringing the best out of lads which can create strong bonding and team spirit and this was to be shown in the dressing room after the game in particular a truly great sporting gesture from Sean Mc who didnt claim his hatrickbut instead insisted that for the 2nd goal the ball was over the line from Mervyn’s shot before he smashed it home.

Thats Team Spirit!!!

Players of Note: Liam, Sean, Colin, Kevin, Cian, Junior, Nathan,Rhys . Man of the Match: Mervyn Shalemba, a fantastic display, gut bursting runs through the middle and wings, battled hard to turn over possession time and time again upfront. With a goal assist and a superb individual strike himself cemented this MOTM performance. Squad on the Day: Gavin Doody, Cian Purcell, Darragh Moriarty, Kevin Goulding, Rhys Keane, Junior Ankomah, Colin Walsh, Mervyn Shalemba, , Nathan Gleeson, Liam Tobin, Sean McGrath , Nathan Holden,Greg Scanlon, Conor O’ Sullivan, Elliot Lynch, Tide Osinubi
