BENNER’S Hotel Courtyard will be buzzing this Sunday for a great fundraising barbecue with cocktails and super raffle prizes.

It’s in aid of Mellon Educate and three generations of the one family in Tralee will be heading to South Africa this winter to volunteer with the organisation.

Pauline Barrett, her daughter Doireann and grandson Jack will travel in November  to volunteer in the township of Wallacedene in South Africa to improve the schooling conditions for the township community who still live in horrific poverty.

This will be Paulines 11th trip, Doireann’s 5th and Jack’s 1st experience travelling to volunteer there.

“We would greatly appreciate the support of the local community by paying it forward and enjoying an afternoon of good food, great company all while learning more about Mellon Educate,” said Doireann.

Beginning at 4pm, there are some great prizes from local businesses and the top prize has been kindly donated by Cork man Ross Lewis who runs a Michelin Star restaurant in Dublin. This prize includes a Dining experience with Ross in his amazing restaurant Chapter One in Dublin. There’s also cocktails on arrival.

Tickets at €50 are on sale now by calling Doireann Barrett at 0862414349. Tickets are presale only and will not be available at the door. For more about Mellon Educate see www.melloneducate.com

A TRALEE woman is opening a pop-up shop this Saturday, for one day only, to raise funds for the Mellon Educate fund.

Pauline Barrett has been to South Africa on numerous occasions with the Irish-based African development charity founded by  Niall Mellon, helping to build houses for the homeless and schools to educate the poor in the townships over the years.

On Saturday in a unit at Ivy Terrace (opposite Bella Bia) Pauline will be selling clothes, toys, buggies, shoes, handbags and much more.

The opening hours are between 10am and 6pm so pop down to support a great cause and you might pick up a great bargain.
