Fundraising Night At The Dogs To Help Local Man

.
Family and friends of Chris O’Driscoll look forward to the fundraiser next month.

THE family and friends of a man from Camp are hosting a fundraising night at the Dogs at Kingdom Greyhound Stadium on Saturday, September 9.

Chris O’Driscoll suffered a significant stroke on January 1 of this year and has spent the last eight months between Cork University Hospital and the National Rehabilitation Centre in Dun Laoighre, where he is currently being cared for.

The funds raised on the night will support his ongoing rehabilitation and recovery. The organisers say they are most appreciative for all the support to date from the race sponsors, those who have placed adverts for the race program, and for all the people near and far who have brought admission tickets.

DESPITE the bad weather, Kilmoyley National School had great support at their fundraising Night at the Dogs event at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium on Saturday.

The night was organised to help raise vital funds for the school to finish the extension currently being built to the highest possible standard.

Bouncy Castles, Face painting and raffles kept the kids entertained while the adults enjoyed watching the races and a meal.

The Principal of Kilmoyley National School, Áine Crowe, said; “The parents have been unbelievable, the board of management has been fantastic and just the community in general. We’ve been selling tickets around the local parishes and people have been really supportive. We’re just looking forward to a great night and hopefully we’ll make a few euro for the school!” Scroll down for photos…

THERE was a lot of excitement in Spa National School on Monday at the launch of its upcoming ‘Night at the Dogs’ fundraiser.

“The organising committee has been working extremely hard behind the scenes and has received such generous support from the families in the school and friends in the wider community. We are very grateful!” said school principal, Peter Linehan.

As well as twelve specially-sponsored dog races starting at 7pm on the night, the committee has organised a wide variety of different novelty activities from bouncy castles to face painting for the younger visitors, to a ‘Battle of the Legends’ with former Kerry footballer, Marc Ó Sé taking on Kerry hurler John Griffin in an 80 metre solo challenge, for the older visitors.

However, the highlight of the night will most likely be the ‘Spa N.S. Wheelbarrow 525 Final’ being organised by the school’s student council.

Six teams of students each led by a local celebrity will compete in a relay race with a difference. There will be prizes for the best dressed couples, lots of spot prizes and post racing music to keep the party going.

The committee has also set up a special ‘Buster Race Draw’ with the lucky winner taking home €500 on the night.

“The excitement is really building,” added Rowena Savage, Chairperson of the Parents Association, “and we invite everyone to come along and enjoy a really fun night out!”
