ARDFERT NS were recently announced as the winners of the national finals in the ‘One Good Idea’ competition in Dublin.
Six children from third class in the school won the national competition in Dublin Castle on May 7 which was in association with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland.
Pupils Sarah Bodenham, Craoi Horgan, Gary O’Riordan, Timmy McElligot, Tiernan O’Sullivan and Adam McDonagh worked on the project with their teacher Marie O’Connell.
The idea of the project was to create awareness of energy efficiency and climate change. This involved the children telling all the other pupils in the school how they can be more energy efficient through a few simple actions.
These simple things can be as easy as making sure all the lights are turned off at night, making sure all electrical items are turned off at the end of the school day and to keep your room doors closed whenever possible to prevent the loss of warm air.
The children received Samsung Galaxy Tablets while the school received a cheque for €2,000 so that they continue on and develop their efforts.
