The students at Moyderwell have also been very involved in the promotion of cultural integration and inclusion through their participation in eTwinning projects with students in both Sweden and the UK.

Mr Kelly then fielded a number of questions ranging from his favourite EU country (Italy) to how much he earns (€92,000 a year). He also spoke of how Brexit was a big mistake for Britain and confirmed what his favourite sport is (give a wild guess!). It was a hugely enjoyable visit for both the schoolchildren and Sean Kelly.

President Michael D Higgins has not yet decided whether he will stay on, but if he doesn’t, the Kilcummin man said the role would appeal to him should the Fine Gael Party decide to nominate him.

President Higgins said he will make a decision on whether he will seek a second term in May after he returns from a visit to Canada.

However, Mr Kelly said if the President decides to stay on, an election contest should not be necessary and he should be allowed to continue his work.

Speaking on Radio Kerry this morning, Sean Kelly said he would embrace the challenge but jokingly said it would be a far more attractive position if they could move the Áras down to Kerry.

Mr Kelly said he had great support and encouragement in both his party and around the country to run for President. If an election is necessary, it will take place in November this year.
