REPORTS;

(Youths) FAI Youth Cup 1/4 Final;

Park Fc 0-4 Galway Hibernians,

The youths great adventure in this seasons FAI Youth Cup ended on Saturday against Galway Hibernians. Although on the day, the team never got the chance to show the quality of football they can play, they should be very proud of their achievements in reaching the last eight of a national competition.

Galway Hibernians started much the better and Park Keeper Maciek Morawski was quickly off his line to deny Hibernians from taking the lead. Midway through the half Hibernians took the lead when they intercepted a ball as the Park tried to play from the back to give them a derived lead. Ten Minutes later it was two nil when the away side punished the Park for not clearing their lines from a corner.

Park brought on John O’Brien at half time to try give them more of a scoring in an effort to get back into the game but he never really got the service to create any chances. Sadly for the home side Hibernians scored twice more in the final twenty five minutes to secure their place in the last four. The Park will now look towards local competitions where they are in the league semi-finals and also in the quarter final of the Jimmy Falvey Memorial Youth Cup.

St. Brendan’s Park FC starting eleven; Maciek Morawski, Seán Tansley, Shane McGinley, Gavin Wadding, Segun Duyile, Nathan O’Leary, Emmanuel Abubakar, Eamon Sheehy, Donagh O’Brien, Thomas Leen, Darcy O’Sullivan.

(U13) Division 1 ;

Park B 1-1 Mastergeeha Fc ,

It was a calm morning for the league meeting between Park under 13 B and Mastergeeha. The game got under way at 10.30. Both teams attacked and defended well and possession was 50/50. Twenty minutes in, confusion in the Park area saw a mix up between the keeper and a defending midfielder which caused the ball to go in off the midfielder making it 0-1 at half time.

After a team talk at half time Park came out with a more positive and attacking attitude. After 14 minutes a free from outside the area which was well delivered saw Evan Foley put the ball in the net to level the score. After that Park played some good football especially down the left side with good link up play between Gavin Parker and Danny Fisher. Adam Sheehy and keeper Hugh Emmerson played very well. Final score 1-1. Park must now win their one remaining game against Killorglin to be sure of topping the league.

REPORTS;

(U13) Div.1;

Killarney Celtic B 2-1 Park B:

It was lashing rain and very windy at kick off for the league game between under 13 Killarney Celtic B and Park B. The game got under way at 10.25 with Park playing against the wind and rain. Five minutes into the game the ball bounced off the Park full back and hit him on the elbow resulting in a free kick just outside the area to Killarney.

The resulting free kick found the top corner and it was 1-0. The next 15 minutes saw Killarney in control but after that Park settled and played some good football. Matt Healy made a lovely run from the left and past the keeper, took a shot which was going in, meanwhile Striker David (Tiny) Callaghan and the Celtic keeper made a dash for the ball which Tiny won and as he was about to finish the keeper got down to make the save.

Half time score 1-0. After a good half time team talk Park went out more positive and controlled the second half with 90% of the play in the Killarney half. After 20 minutes a lovely through ball from midfield saw Matt make a run for the ball which he got to before the Celtic keeper and he lifted it over and into the net.

With the score at 1-1 Park remained in control and hit the bar twice and had another shot just over. With only 2 minutes left in the game the ball was played long from the Celtic half and was well taken by their forward who scored the winning goal.

Final score 2-1. It is the first game since 2014 that Park have lost. However they still remain on top of the table and are still on course to win the league.

REPORTS ;
(U13) Div 1 ;
Killarney Athletic 0-7 Park B ,
Killarney Athletic grounds were the venue for the game against Park under 13 B on a sunny but cold morning. The game got under way at 10.30 with Park taking 5 or so minutes to settle.

When they did it was all Park with some lovely link up play down both wings and through the middle of the field. After 8 minutes or so Mark Brick took a beautiful free kick from the side line half way inside Killarney’s half which hit the top corner of the net, however the goal was disallowed as there was a park player in an off side position, a good decision by the referee but a wonderful strike by Mark.

A few minutes after that Danny Fisher playing on the left wing worked his way towards goal and as soon as he got within striking distance he let fly and found the back of the net for Parks opening goal.

Soon after some expert play by David (Tiny) Callaghan saw him score Parks second. Just before half time right winger Adam Walker worked his way into the box with some excellent dribbling passing defender after defender and got Parks third. Half time score 0-3.

The second half saw an even better performance by park with lovely play in mid field by the Brick brothers Connor and Mark. Within 5 minutes Matt Healy played his way through the Killarney defence and made it 4 for Park.

The introduction of John Davis on the right wing saw an excellent performance, as he added to Parks tally to make it 0-5. Soon after that another attack on goal by John saw him brought down in the area, the result a penalty which John himself took and hit the net with.

Park weren’t finished yet, when a cross came from the left hand side Vincent Murphy played his part and scored the final goal making it Killarney 0 Park 7.

It has to be said that the Park defence played its part with strong defending by man of the match Adam Sheehy and also Ryan Guerin. Keeper Hugh Emmerson was superb in goal to keep a clean sheet. Well done to the whole squad, all 15 of whom contributed.

REPORTS ;
(U13) Div 1;
Park B 5-3 Killarney Celtic B ,
It was a dry day with no wind for the second league game in division 1 under 13s between Park B and Killarney Celtic B.

The game got under way at 12.15 with Park attacking and making some fine moves, one in particular which looked like it could lead to the opening goal but it was deemed to be offside. After 5 minutes or so a high ball down field by Killarney which bounced in front of Parks central defender saw an effort on goal, in the confusion that followed Parks defender put the ball in his own net making it 0-1.

Shortly after that, following another attack by Killarney a mix up between Parks defender and keeper saw Killarney make it 0-2. Park continued to play well with some lovely movements down the right wing, Evan Foley linking up with Adam Walker who sent David (Tiny) Callaghan on an attack and as he approached the penalty area he let fly with a beautiful shot which hit the back of the net. 1-2 at half time.

After a team talk at half time Park got down to business in the second half dominating play and with some excellent midfield play the ball came out to the left wing where Matt Healy took it up and made his way on goal, with everyone expecting him to have a shot as he closed in on goal he unselfishly passed it to Tiny who stuck it in the back of the net for his and Parks second.

Park now in command all over the field made it look easy as they played forward and a lovely cross from the left side found the head of Danny Jeffers who put it away to make it 3-2.

Minutes later left winger Danny Fisher running in on goal had a shot and made it 4-2. With 10 minutes to go a goal by Killarney which looked well offside was allowed making it 4-3. There was a tense but exciting 10 minutes to go, Park attacking, Killarney attacking. Parks defence were excellent blocking all shots by Killarney reminiscent of the Republic of Ireland defence against Germany.

With a minute left, the ball was played in to the Killarney area and Tiny was waiting there to score his hat trick which he did. Final score 5-3. Well done to Park.

St Brendans Park FC Show Racism The Red Card

Colaiste Gleann Li Insert
.

A TRALEE soccer club is taking steps to combat racism by showing it the red card as part of an FAI initiative.

As Ireland changes with immigration, this is reflected in in our clubs and institutions and St Brendans Park FC Chairman, Colm McLoughlin, tells us that 30% of players at the club are from non-Irish backgrounds.

The club have undertaken an anti-racism initiative from the FAI called  ‘Show Racism the Red Card’.

The aim of the association is to produce anti-racist educational resources, which harness the high profile of professional footballers to combat racism.

“As far as we at St Brendans Park are concerned there is no place for racism in any shape or form,” said Colm McLoughlin.

The campaign has education through sport as a common goal, but draws on different local resources to get the message across.

“It is an issue and it can go undetected, I’ve often heard it at games, I wouldn’t be happy with a lot of comments passed at games so it definitely is an issue that needs to be fully addressed,” he said.

“The punishment for any player making a racist comment is a straight red card. Child protection officers would deal with it then, but it’s a delicate issue, you nearly have to be on the spot when it happens.”

“‘Prevention is the cure’ is the way we look at it, catching kids early and educating them that is no place for racism on or off the pitch.”

Show Racism the Red Card is also present in the United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark.

REPORTS ;
(U13) Premier ;
Listowel Celtic 1-6 Park A
We opened our league Campaign on Thursday evening away to Listowel. We stared brightly when  Captain John O’Connor played a lovely ball through the 2 centre backs for Leon Gallagher who superbly lobbed the on rushing keeper to put us up 1-0 after 2 minutes. But Listowel pulled a goal back within 5 minutes when they won a free kick on the edge of our area when we had good opportunities to clear but failed to do so and got punished when the free kick was struck high into the roof of our net.

The game went a bit hectic after the equaliser  but we found our way back  in front when John played another sublime pass out wide to Earnan Ferris burst in off left wing brushed by the defender and hit a powerful shot into the roof of the net. Listowel fought hard to peg is back but our back line of Sean Broerick(gk) Graham Sheehy James Charles Alan and Cian Brosnan were outstanding to ensured that it remained  2-1 at the break.

The second half we swapped our keeper and on came DJ Griffin, Earnan  made it 3-1 with another delicate chip over the keeper to score his second this time the assist coming from Cian Brosnan by that time we also introduced Darragh Caplis just after the half and he had himself a fine half bagging 2 goals.

His second all his own making when he controlled a long clearance from Armin Heinrich, he took the ball on his chest just inside his own half, turned the defender and raced towards the goal with the Listowel defence hot on his heels he had the pace to keep ahead of them to round the on rushing keeper who made firm contact with Darragh but his eyes were focused on the goal and did brilliantly to stay on his feet and keep the ball under control to put it into an empty net 5-1.

Darragh o Connor and Cianan Cooney came into the fray and the scores ins increased once more with Earnan Ferris get his much deserved hat trick with an absolute beauty.

The ball was hanging in the air when Earnan flew into the air smashing in an overhead scissor kick that no keeper would have kept out. All in all a fantastic team performance.

Best on the day were Alan Brosnan James Charles Armin Heinrich John o Connor Darragh Caplis Leon Gallagher
Man of the Match Earnan Ferris.

(U12) Premier ;
Park A 3-1 Listowel Celtic A
Its fair to say that one of the toughest games this current Park squad played last season as u11’s was the semi-final of the Kerry Cup. The game went all the way to penalties and was played against a very competitive Listowel Celtic side.

We knew then that there was going to be no easy start to this new season as u12’s as the lads started the new campaign against familiar foes.
The commitment to training and in the warm-up games that we had played suggested that we were ready but we expected a tough test none the less and that is how it played out.

It was a lovely evening for a game with a stiff breeze and a pitch that was in good condition. The opening exchanges were a bit helter-skelter with a lot of the game being played out in the middle of the pitch while both teams got to grips with each other.

Even at this stage the Park were keeping the ball on the floor, passing well and creating one or two half chances and getting a couple of corners early on but no real scoring opportunities were coming at this stage. At the back Liam was marshalling the back four on front of him and looking really confident with his kick outs as he did for the whole game.

This allowed us to take control of possession right from the back four of Jack, Sean, Ben and Josh. With a couple of new positions for some of the back four the defending was extremely assured which was limiting Listowel Celtic to speculative efforts from distance. In midfield, Conor was working really hard as the main defensive cover as Listowel were playing an attacking formation in the first half.

David was busy as always and providing the link between the defence and attack really well. Cianan at the front of our midfield three was linking up really well with Colin up front and they created a number of opportunities for each other as the half progressed although a combination of excellent saves and near misses meant that the Listowel Celtic goal was not breached in the first half.

With a strong bench in place the team was freshened up with Daragh and Samuel coming into the back four, Cillian up front while Danny and Venice slotted in to midfield.

The team continued to control much of the possession but with a goal still not coming for Park a breakaway by Listowel caused problems for our defence resulting in a goal close to half-time. A little tough on the lads but 0-1 to Listowel at the break.

The second half had a similar look to it as the first half with Park playing some lovely football against what is a talented and physical Listowel side. At times early in the half it looked like we were creating some more space and that it was going to be a matter of time before a goal would come.

There was some excellent passing and moving which had Listowel in trouble on many occasions but no finish. However, as can happen in games it was almost 0-2 to Listowel except for a good save from Liam which kept us in the game.

The rotation of the bench continued and it was two of the players that had fresh legs that combined to get the goal they deserved. Cianan played a great pass to Colin who had peeled away from the defender before controlling the pass and beating the keeper to make it 1-1.

It was no more than Park deserved and now momentum and confidence was high and the Park went in search of a winner and it wasn’t long before it came with Cianan finishing off a great move, 2-1. With time running out Colin was fouled on the edge of the box in a dangerous position. Cianan stood up to take the free through a crowded penalty area to the bottom corner for his second of the match and Parks third.

Full-Time: Park A 3 Listowel Celtic 1

It was a very entertaining game of football played at pace and with no small amount of skill. The luck of the draw means that these two teams will also meet in the National Cup 1st round so definitely one worth coming to see.

(U14) Premier ; Tralee Dynamos A 1-2 Park A
Park FC had to dig deep to get the victory in this local derby.Park dominated the possession stats but in front of goal they were frustrated by some tame efforts and the young dynamo keeper was at his best.Dynamos battling qualities must be admired and they struck first blood twenty two minutes in when their star midfielder Sean Kennedy netted from a thirty yard free kick and they held the lead to the break.Park made a change at the break introducing Alfie Christie,now Park had dynamos pushed back deep in their own half but again guilty of poor finishing in front of goal.Parks Alfie Christie with less than eight minutes on the watch levelled the game with a low twenty five yard strike and with dynamos unsettled Parks Sean McGrath and Leon Shalamba combined to score the winner for Park in the final minute of the game.Best for Park ; James Rusk , Sean McGrath , Sebastian Vasiu , Leon Shalamba; Man of the Match ; Poga McCannon .

(U14) Div 2 ; Park Fc B 2-2 Fenit Samphires
Nice crisp morning for a game, we didn’t know what to expect from the Fenit Saphires, I had a feeling that it wasn’t going to be easy. We started of well even then tho we were short of two main player’s Harris and Tony. Park started the battle and with  both teams raring to go,there was good passing up and down the field, then after 5 minutes Padraig shot the ball but the Fenit keeper could not hold on to the ball 1-0. With 10 minutes to go in the first half Padraig on the attack again shot at the keeper , but this time the keeper was able to save but could not hold on to it and with a follow up by Jack, Jack lobbed the ball over the keeper 2-0. Half Time Score 2-0. Second half was a fast half, with Fenit making a substitution an ex Park A player Fergal O’brien made it harder for the lads with a determination to score but with our defence they didn’t make it easy for Fergal, with a one on one Fergal and Joe, Fergal shot and Joe made a great save. Eventually Fergal took a shot from outside the box and in it went 2-1. The game was yet again up and down the field, some good strikes and some unlucky misses from both sides. 3 minutes to go and Fenit went on the attack and scored 2-2. A great game from both sides well done all. Player’s: Joe, Josh, Brian, Daniel, Cillian, Samson, Padraig, Dylon, Jack,Carl (Cj), Mark, Alex, Tennyson and Thomas . Man of the Match: Padraig White. Again well done Lads.

(U12) Div 2 ; Tralee Dynamos B 0-8 Park B
A bright cold morning in Tralee saw a derby between Park under 12 B and their next door neighbours dynamos under 12 B at the Dynamos ground. Park got off to a slow start taking some time to settle. Dynamos had a lot of attacks in the first 10 minutes but Ryan Guerin was solid as ever in central defence, any shots they had were well dealt with By Huge Emmerson in goal. Attacks from Dynamos right wing were cut off by TJ Heaphy who was excellent in the left back position. With 20 minutes gone Matt Healy got the ball in the penalty area and scored a lovely goal, settling everybody’s nerves. It finished 0-1 at half time. The second half was a different story altogether. Danny Graney came on as striker replacing David (Tiny) Callaghan whose footwear let him down. Within minutes Matt again got the ball and made it 2 to park. 10 minutes later Jordan Kissane was introduced, he won the ball in midfield, played his way through and smashed in Parks third goal. A few minutes after that Robert Vassiu who was playing in mid field scored a wonderful goal. Danny Graney playing striker then scored two beautiful goals from close range making it 6 for Park. With 15 minutes to go Mark Brick took up a striking position alongside Danny and scored two great goals to make the final score 0-8. Although Leon Daly didn’t score he was outstanding on the right wing and contributed to the goals by supplying excellent crosses and won man of the match for his play. Left winger Earnan Ferris had a great game also making some great crosses. Well done to Park who now have maximum points after 5 games.

REPORTS

U12 Premier ; Park A 1-1 Camp A

On Friday night we opened our league campaign against Camp. A tough opening fixture against a very good team. on a lovely sunny evening in Christy Leahy Park, the game began at a frantic pace both team playing on the front foot. Camp took the lead with 5mins on the whit a long ball over the top Sean Broderick raced outside his area made a tackle but the ball bounced up and fell to the camp player perfectly and he composed himself and sublimely lobbed the ball over Cian Brosnan’s head as he tried to get back on the line to clear. 1 down but plenty time left to get back in it.

As the half wore on we pressed hard for the equaliser with martin Laucher coming close on 3 occasions the last chance coming with a diving header but the keeper held on to the ball. the half ended with us trailing 1 nil. We made a changes at half time Alan Brosnan coming for David Fiadio and Armin Heinrich replacing Graham Sheehy. both player gave some serious strength, speed and changed the game in our favour.

Two more changes with Darrah Caplis and Adam Walker coming on for Martin Laucher and Dylan Griffin. both subs made a massive difference and with Man of the Match Cian and Darragh causing Camp awful problems down the left and Adam and the tireless Sean Mcgrath raiding down the right it was a real push for our opening goal in this the lads first League Campaign. When Captain Leon Gallagher spun the defender raced through on the out coming keeper he composed himself dribbled around the keeper with some ease he steadied himself lined up the shot with two players running back to the line his shot only found the side netting.

A devastating blow to anybody’s confidence but not this captain after he began to drive on his team and after chasing down a camp counter he won the ball back just inside the camp half his cross was cleared only to find the boot of Cian Brosnan who unbelievable volley was struck with power accuracy and perfect technique was destined for the top corner from the moment it left his left boot and thats were it was heading and the keeper couldn’t keep it out after getting a good hand on it. final score 1-1.

The subs coming in made a real difference espiecally Armin and Alan. best on the day were Alan Armin Sean Mc Leon and man of the match was Cian not just for his goal but for a real determined performance. A good point in the end after training for so long in the game.Well done to all the player for the never giving in and playing right to the final whistle.

U12 Div1: Park 2 – 1 Camp United

The second league match of the season for the under 12 B team was played on Friday evening at home against Camps B team. Park fell behind in the third minute with Camp getting an easy penalty. From there on Park took over and had all the possession with most of the play taking place in the Camp half. However despite some good play from Robert in midfield and solid defending from Ryan Guerin and James Charles it remained 0-1 at half time. The second half continued as the first half left off with Park having most of the play but Camps defence was hard to get through.

However with the introduction of the Brick brothers with 15 minutes to go and Jordan Kissane moving forward, that was to change. A lovely cross from Connor Brick to Jordan saw him blast the ball into Camps net to level things up with 10 minutes to go. Five minutes later a super cross from Mark Brick found Jordan’s head and Jordan made it 2-1.

There was some late pressure from Camp in the closing minutes but Park were equal to it. There were triumphant scenes of joy and relief after the game by players and coaches alike.

Munster Youths Cup ; Park 7-0 Listowel Celtic

We advance to the Kerry area Final of the Munster Youths cup with a convincing win over Listowel Celtic on Saturday . The game was only a matter of minutes old when we went ahead from a back heal flick by Fergal Ryan . Sean Duked headed home minutes later before Ryan Dolan added two goals of his own to have us four goals up after 30 minutes.

Sean Dukes finessed from a tight angle just before he had to come off at half time injured . The second half us control the game again without adding much to the score line but we did however hit the frame of the goal on three occasions . Mid way through the half Fergal Ryan grabbed his second . For the final 15 minutes we played with 9 players as Segun Duyile and Gearoid Savage had to come off injured and all three subs had already had been made.

This didn’t seem to phase our passing and Ryan Dolan added to the scoring to complete his hat trick in the dying minutes . We now face Killarney Celtic in the Kerry area final .
