THERE was great craic up at Tralee Rugby Club yesterday as their Summer Tag Rugby One-Day event was held.

Six 7-a-side teams – Hashtag, Mud Invention, Throwbacks, Nisus, Gardai and the Individuals – battled it out over the course of the day and thankfully the weather was kind to them.

There was a barbecue and other refreshments laid on, while a DJ kept the atmosphere going long after the final try was scored.

In the end, Mud Invention beat Nisus to take the Tralee Rugby Club Perpetual Trophy. Scroll down for photos…

A WEEKLY mixed over 18’s Tag Rugby competition is set to kick off at Tralee Rugby Club at the end of this month.

Tralee Tag Rugby begins on May 25 and will take place every Wednesday night between 7 and 8pm for 10 weeks.

The competition has been an annual event for many years, attracting all kinds, from the sporty and competitive to those who enjoy the social aspect of the occasion.

If you’re not sure what Tag Rugby is, an introduction to the rules for newcomers will take place at registration on the first night.

Like all team sports, it is a great way to meet new people, get some exercise and learn a few new skills along the way.

There’s the added bonus of a barbecue each evening throughout the tournament so people can come straight from work without having to worry about dinner.

Tralee Tag Rugby brings back players year after year but the club would love to see some new faces.

The way it works is, each team has 12 players with seven on the pitch at one time with a minimum of three female players. If a full team can’t be made, or if a player has come on their own, the organisers will make up the numbers and allocate a player to a team.

At the end of the 10 weeks there will be a presentation of prizes along with a party. First prize is a month’s free membership to NISUS Fitness in Tralee for the month of August for the winning team.

This year, there is a Fair Play award with the prize for the winners being a €400 voucher for Nadur Spa. There are also prizes for 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
