THE Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí transition year class has been invited to Birmingham Library to showcase a film they created about local who fought for the Munster Fusiliers in WWI.
They specifically focused on the Gallipoli landing of 1915. This was an initiative of the National Museum of Ireland, Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí were the only school outside of Dublin to undertake the research.
Pupils investigated circumstances surrounding joining the Fusiliers and conditions of these men’s post-recruitment and eventually composed a play based around some local men who had joined up.

The project was led by teacher, Michelle D’Altúin, and supported by the Kerry County Museum, Kerry County Library, Tralee Army Barracks and the Royal Munster Fusiliers Association, as well as local people with an interest in the Fusiliers.
This piece of historical fiction was filmed by some fourth year film students in I.T.T and shown in Collins’ Barracks last May.
They are invited to the Birmingham Library this coming March as part of a wider WW1 retrospective.
