WITH just weeks to go until departure, the Tralee International Children’s Games team received a boost from the Tesco Community Fund on Wednesday.

After an absence of one year from the International Children’s Games and Cultural Festival, Tralee will again be represented at the Games in 2019 in Ufa, the capital city of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia.

Chairman of Tralee ICG, Mike Culloty and students who are off to the games, were on hand to accept a cheque for €344.05.

“I’m thrilled with the idea of the Community Support Programme in Tesco. We’ve already been here for two days of bag packing and we’re grateful to local people for donating to that.”

Mike was especially thankful to Louise O’Connor, the Tesco Manor West Store Champion, who is a former pupil of Mike from his teaching days in Mercy Mounthawk.

The team selected for Russia, representing Tralee will take part in Judo, Athletics and Soccer.

“Our participation would not be possible in terms of raising the necessary finance to travel without the support of the local community and local business. We are most grateful for this support and it is appreciated greatly by Tralee ICG and the athletes”.

Tralee ICG also received a significant boost earlier this year with the approval of €1,000 from the Tralee Municipal District Community Support Fund.
