TRALEE Musical Society is on the eve of taking to the stage for their well-timed patriotic and epic production of ‘The Beautiful Game’ from Wednesday March 30 to April 3.

This dramatic and powerful West End hit combines sports, politics, and a Romeo and Juliet romance. Set in 1969 Belfast, this Irish story concerns a local young Catholic football team, whose lives are derailed by the Irish Troubles.

Focusing on five of the teams’ players, it’s about young people on the verge of adulthood, wanting to love, play football and lead normal lives in a city dominated by violence and hatred.

It’s very much a game of two halves, filled with dark humour and teenage awkwardness, and some bleak, murderous storylines contrasting with rousing and beautifully choreographed football scenes.

It has been compared to their hugely successful and award-winning show Michael Collins, and tickets are already in huge demand both from local audiences and societies and dramatic groups around the country.

The shows are nightly at 8pm Wednesday to Saturday and one matinee show to finish their run on Sunday, April 3 at 2.30pm.
