TRALEE Credit Union celebrated International Credit Union Day on Thursday by highlighting this year’s theme “Local Service, Global Good” to launch their support for the Ebola crisis.

“The best way we feel that our “local service” as a credit union can do “global good” right now is to fundraise and get local support for the Ebola crisis in West Africa,” said Fintan Ryan, Tralee Credit Union CEO.

“Every time you watch the news or read a paper you see the devastation the Ebola outbreak is having on families and communities in the five West African countries of Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Senegal.  Most people would like to help but are not sure how to go about it so we hope our fundraising account will encourage people to support this campaign and make a donation”.

Tralee Credit Union has opened a credit union account called the Ebola Appeal.  All monies raised will go to Medecins San Frontieres Doctors without Borders.

“The support from local communities around Ireland is really appreciated by our staff who are on the front line of the Ebola epidemic,” said Jane-Ann McKenna, Director of Médecins Sans Frontières.

“This week, another doctor and a nurse from Ireland have flown out to Sierra Leone where they will be caring for patients in the isolation centres and working in the community to do follow up contact tracing.  The conditions are extremely challenging and heartbreaking, but having so much support from people at home here in Ireland definitely helps. To find out more about the Ebola crisis and our work visit our website www.msf.ie/ebola”.

Donations will go towards supplying complete protective suits, resistant gloves, rehydration salts to help treat infected patients and towards sending doctors to the field to treat Ebola patients in West Africa for a week.

Tralee Credit Union is calling on its own members and the general public to donate to this fundraising account.

Donations can be made by EFT from your bank /credit union accounts, or by calling in to Tralee Credit Union’s offices in Tralee or Castleisland.

This account will remain open until Friday 14th of November when it will close. If your company, school, club would like to join in and fundraise, cheque presentations can be made acknowledging donations to this account. For further information on this campaign and account visit. www.traleecu.ie
