10 athletes competed over the two days in the Munster U9 -U12 Indoor Championships at the Nenagh Olympic Arena, and all athletes gave it their all and did themselves proud. with many setting new Pb’s in the sprints.
Sean Murphy competed in the 60m and rean well, in the heat finishing 6th. In the Long Jump Sean shone and listening to all he learned in the two 15 min training sessions he had he jumped his way to 4th place and a Jump of 3.08m.
Lucy O’Connor managed to get herself inside the top 10 in the long jump and then went on to take on the big guns of Munster in the 60m sprint. She Won her heat and was Second in her Semi final. Lucy finished just outside the medals but was a great effort all round by Lucy.
Rachel O’Mahoney moved between three events. She started with the High Jump and though fell short of her mark she did very well in a top class field. She followed that up with three strong jumps in the Long Jump, still working on the run up and take-off, but a good start and good base to work from. Her 60m sprint heat was good enough to take her through to the semi finals.
Sorcha Casey competed in the 60m and Long Jump, again a first timer to Nenagh, Sorcha tried hard in the long jump and had two very clean jumps on the board, she like Rachel ran very well in her heats of the 60m but alas the field was too strong, and she didn’t progress to the final
Lucy O Donnell, another first timer in Nenagh, was competing in the 60 and long jump and though didn’t medal she had a great day out. Caelainn Richardson was in action on Saturday in the U12 600m. She did well in her heat but narrowly missed out on a place in the final.
Grace O’Donnell like the other girls did the 60m and the Long Jump. She did well in the long jump, and set a new PB in the 60m, Caoimhe Murphy has been giving it all in training since September Caoimhe ran well in the 60m and her time was a new PB and she made it into the semis. She did well in the long jump and will be ready for counties in a few month.
Lucy and Rachel Mulgrew, ran and jumped well in their events and set new PB’s in both events.
It was a great day out, and everyone did really well over the two days, thank you to the parents and other coaches who came with the athletes and helped make the day one to remember.
Rachel Bowler went to Dublin to try her hand at the AAI Indoor Games she competed in both the Long Jump and the Triple Jump at the New Sports Ireland National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown DublinAs her coach reported earlier Rachel finished in 5th place with with a jump of 5.25m. “All good as changes in running technique are bedding in and have put performance back a little. This is the time of year for adjustment so all part of the master plan!!!”
In the Triple Jump Rachel did one better and finished in 4th place with (if I’m not mistaken) a equalling pb of 10.80m
As always great job Rachel, upcoming Munsters are looking good.
Solange Carla DIOGO who is one of Rachel’s Triple Jump training buddies came home in third with a jump of 10.98. Good Job Solange.
