Tralee Lions Club Distributes €52k After Its 45th Annual Golf Classic

TRALEE Lions Club President Sean Cooke extended his gratitude to all who contributed to the club’s extremely successful golf classic which raised a record breaking €52k.

All the funds were distributed to representatives of 15 local charities at the Meadowlands Hotel on Friday evening.

The beneficiaries included, Eagle Lodge, Fenit Life Boat, Kerry Hospice Foundation, Baile Mhuire, Ballyheigue Inshore Rescue Service, Pieta House, Castleisland Community Garden, Open Arms, Kerry Friends of Motor Neuron Disease, Enable Ireland, Tralee & West Kerry Branch of MS Ireland, Tralee Select Vestry, Kerry Cancer Support Group, Kerry Down Syndrome, Recovery Haven & Animal Help Net Kerry & finally Tralee Branch Chernobyl Support Group.

Speaking in The Meadowlands Hotel, President Sean Cooke welcomed the representatives from the Charities and complimented them for their commitment & dedication in assisting their own individual causes.

He also paid special tribute to the Lion’s many loyal supporters and sponsors who make the annual trip to Barrow to assist in the club’s fundraising efforts.

He also thanked Club members Teddy Reynolds and Pat Crean for their input especially in the past three years with The Golf Classic which has seen a total of €134k distributed to local Charitable causes.

Funds raised from the event also assisted with the annual Tralee Community bus outing which is co-ordinated each year between the Lion Club and the local Community Garda. The club also continues to support other local projects to include Hawley Park School, Tralee Soup Kitchen & Meals on Wheels.

On behalf of the Charities, Joe Hennebery of Kerry Hospice Foundation thanked Tralee Lions Club for their continued hard work within the community and assured all those present that ‘the contributions will make a difference to so many people’s, lives, not just today, but into the future’.

Tralee Lions Club meets monthly on the second Tuesday of the month from September to May at 8pm at Meadowlands Hotel. They are always looking for new members so go along if you would like to join. They can be found on Facebook and their website will be launched shortly.

As he closed proceedings, President Sean congratulated this year’s winning team representing KSN Construction. 2nd Marlet Property Group, 3rd Aspen Grove, 4th Pat McCarthy & 5th Grenke Invoice Finance. Longest drive was won by Niall Sheehy who was also on the winning team, while Martin Ryan won nearest the pin.
