Development Workshop Fri 15 Jan:
An open workshop will be hosted on Fri 15th Jan 2016 in Kerins O’Rahillys at 7.30pm. This is to follow up on the well-attended Parnells meeting in late November.
We invite everybody and anybody to attend, including those who are not actively involved in the club. Please spread the word, that everybody with an interest in Hurling and Camogie development are welcome.
We are looking forward to getting more ideas and energy generated for Hurling and Camogie development in Tralee.
Report to Camogie County Board 2015:
As well as the team sections, included in previous dispatches, the Parnells report to the 2015 AGM of The Kerry Camogie County Board included some general updates.
Some of these include the following. For our Night of Champions on June 19, all teams welcomed the Kerry Senior Camogie Team who conducted training sessions, imparted words of wisdom and autographed hurleys and jerseys.
At Cúl Camp, players from all teams participated in a well-run and fun camp that produced vast improvement in the skill levels of participants; well done David O’Dea and team! The club trip to the All-Ireland Camogie Finals on Sep 13 was a huge success.
For the first time, players saw the bigger picture: 16,500 camogie fans turned out to see the best adult players in the country. It was an added bonus to see a photo of themselves in the All-Ireland match programme (from the trip to Tipp in April)!
Coinciding with the Tralee Parnells Club Day, the Veronica Stack Memorial Tournament, organised by the Killarney Camogie Club, was the final fixture of the season on Sep 26. 34 Parnells players travelled by bus to Dr. Crokes’ grounds. Teams were entered at U9, U11 and U14 levels and played the 3 Kerry clubs and teams from Middleton, Clonakilty, Millstreet and West Cork (St. Column’s).
The U9’s won all of their matches. The U11’s won 1 of 3 matches. The U14’s won 1 match, lost 2 matches and lost the Shield Final to the home side by 1 score in extra time .. heartbreaking stuff!
Thank you to all of our supporters from outside the club, including: Richard Keane, Chairman, Causeway Hurling Club for coaching the U12 and U14 teams; David Doyle, Chairman, Camogie County Board, for development support of the U14 team; Na Gaeil GAA for free use of their facilities for 2 x U10 blitzes; Moss Spillane, Groundskeeper, Caherslee, for never saying “no”!
2016 Camogie County Board Proposals: Calendar of Events: establish in January dates for monthly board meetings and key events, and stick with those dates.
Volunteers Wanted:
If anybody you know is interested in helping out for one hour per week during the season, please contact any Parnells member. People with Hurling and Camogie experience, as well as those new to these sports, are more than welcome. We have an interesting variety of volunteering opportunities and roles across the club.
