Tralee Women Come First At Ice Swimming Championships

TRALEE women were among the winners at a swimming event in Armagh last weekend.

Mags O’Sullivan and Elaine Burrows Dillane represented Tralee Bay Swimming Club in the World Cup Ireland Ice Swimming 1Km Championships in Wild Water Armagh last Saturday.

Both ladies came first in their category and are members of Tralee Bay Swimming Club, Kingdom Masters Swimming Club and the International Ice Swimming Association (IISA).

A third member of Tralee Bay Swimming Club, Anna McCarthy, who lives in Dublin also came first in her category.

Swimmers from the four corners of Ireland were joined by athletes from Greece, Spain, England and The Netherlands.  The event was held at Wild Water Armagh & swimmers raced in an organic fresh water 25m pool.

The water temperature was 4.4C and the air temperature was 10C. The event was monitored by International Ice Swimming officials, paramedics and life guards.

IISA Ireland are about swimming, creating achievable challenges at extreme temperatures. Well done to all three Tralee ladies on their achievements.
