JOHN EGAN rattled in his third goal of the season last night for Brentford and it was a very important one.
The son of the late Kerry GAA legend John Egan grabbed the headlines when he netted a 88th minute equaliser against Aston Villa.
Normally a centre back, Egan, is showing that there is much more in his locker than defensive nous.
For the goal, the former Cork City man ghosted behind the full back on the right side and took the deftest of first touches before rifling the ball towards goal, to earn his side a point away from home.
The former Ireland U21 could be on the verge of a call up to Martin O’Neill’s squad if these kind of marquee moments become the norm while at Griffin Park in West London.
Brentford are currently eighth in the Championship after seven games played. Egan scored twice on his home debut against Ipswich Town and has been in the side since the first game of the season.
Though John ‘Og’ grew up in Cork he has strong ties to the Kingdom and is a huge supporter of the Kerry football team. We just might claim him if he manages to play for Ireland, as Kerry is one of the few counties in the country which still has not produced a player who has picked up a senior international cap for Ireland.
