FOUR north Kerry ladies handed over a cheque for €5,407 to the Recovery Haven on Friday night after they drove around the 32 counties in record time last month.

Karen McKenna, Lixnaw, Nicola Baker from Abbeydorney and  Linda Murphy and Joanne Coffey from Ardfert took to the road from Abbeydorney on September 27 in a bid to drive around Ireland in 24 hours.

They ended up completing it with hours to spare in 17 hours 37 minutes.

Adams Garage in Tralee donated the car to the ladies who stopped only once on their 1,298km journey and shared the driving duties between them. Local businesses also played their part by donating food and other essential supplies for the road trip, while Eamon O’Connell sponsored their fuel.

When the girls returned they celebrated with a party in Twomey’s Tavern in Abbeydorney, where they returned on Friday night to present the cheque for €5,407.

A representative from Recovery Haven thanked the girls for raising funds for the support centre, without which they wouldn’t be able to operate.
