Work Begins On New Tralee Boxing Club Building At Dean’s Lane

PRELIMINARY work is underway of the site of the new Tralee Boxing Club and Community Space which is due to open next year. JF Flynn Construction Ltd commenced some of the initial phase of work on the site this week with construction scheduled to begin on site next year.

The Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Jim Finucane, and the Minister for Education, Norma Foley, were present on Tuesday as details of the new 1,041sqm facility were revealed.

The two-storey building on a brownfield site at the junction of Boherbee and Dean’s Lane will provide a state of the art boxing facility as well as ancillary facilities for community purposes.

The design of the Tralee Boxing Club and Community Space building was advanced through the planning consent process in 2019 and forms part of the Mitchels Boherbee Community Regeneration Project.

The ground floor will include changing rooms and toilets along with the boxing gym and the gym hall itself. The first floor will include meeting rooms, offices, canteen and toilets associated with the Community Space, together with a mezzanine and canteen for use by the boxing gym members.

The project is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Community Recognition Fund and by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage under the Urban Regeneration Development Fund, along with additional investment by Kerry County Council. Construction of the €3m facility is expected to commence in 2025.
