.

HOME Leisure and Gardens retailer, The Range, has confirmed it will open their new store at Manor West Retail Park in Tralee on Friday, October 22.

The launch takes place after months of building work and preparations to transform the former Debenhams into a brand new Range superstore.

It will provide over 40,000 sq. ft of space in which to shop. The creation of 80 full and part-time jobs will be a boost to the local economy.

Artists’ Graft Needed To Transform The Mundane Into Works Of Art Around Tralee

.

FOLLOWING the success of last year’s initiative where five artists transformed bland utility cabinets throughout the town of Tralee into vibrant works of art, nonfaction have issued an open call for artists, designers, and creatives to submit proposals for artworks at specific sites in the town.

Graft aims to enable local artists to transform the utility boxes which litter our streets into works of art, bringing splashes of vitality and creativity to the streets of Tralee, and ultimately creating a town wide gallery of public art.

The project follows similar community art initiatives which have been successfully developed in cities and towns around the world which have made use of these unused public spaces by transforming them into artworks to help brighten up the streetscapes and helping to make a more vibrant urban environment.

This project is made possible thanks to funding from Kerry County Council’s Arts Act Grant and the support of the Arts Office, Tralee Municipal Office and ESB Networks who permitted the use of their utility boxes.

Deadline for receipt of proposals is the 8th of September. For further information on the project please email: graft@nonfaction.com

EXCITEMENT abounded at Listellick NS on Thursday morning as parents brought their children to begin their schooldays.

Teacher Ashley Reynolds said everything went very smoothly, with no tears shed and children settled in very quickly and comfortably with their new friends.

However, they may not be too long in their current surroundings, as work started earlier this month on the new school which will be located across the road at the top of the hill.

All going well, they’ll be in a brand new building during their time in senior infants. Scroll down for photos…

WITH the current mini-heatwave we’re experiencing, it doesn’t feel like back to school time is here again.

However, the uniforms have appeared and emotional parents were present and correct on Thursday morning at Spa National School as the junior infants arrived in the sunshine.

It all went smoothly and teacher Ciara O’Reilly made all the little boys and girls feel at ease in their new surroundings.

It was a particularly special day for Ciara as one of her new pupils is her own daughter Aoibhínn. We wish all pupils the best for years ahead at Spa NS. Scroll down for photos…
