Public Invited To Make Submissions On Cockleshell To Spa Greenway

The proposed greenway will run along the coastline from Cockleshell to the Spa.

KERRY County Council is inviting public submissions regarding the proposed development of a greenway from Cockleshell Road along the coast to Ballygarran, Spa.

The greenway will link with the already established route from Cockleshell to the Lock Gates and down to the Marina in town.

The proposed development consists of the construction of a 2km long greenway, comprising a 3m wide bitumen macadam paved surface, agricultural fencing on the landward side of the greenway, and associated drainage works.

The Greenway will extend from Cockleshell Road in the townland of the Kerries East, through the Kerries West and finish at The Spa in the townland of Ballygarran and is for the sole use of pedestrians and cyclists only.

The main works will include the following:

• The clearance of vegetation on the proposed route.

• The laying of a 3.0 meter wide bituminous tarmacadam surface on a crushed stone base. • Provision of drainage for the Greenway.

• Provision of agricultural crossings.

• Boundary treatment works including the installation of stock proof fencing.

High Number Of Patients Waiting On Trolleys At UHK Today

THERE were 30 patients waiting on trolleys at the Emergency Department of University Hospital Kerry this morning.

It’s the highest number this week and almost double Tuesday’s figure of 16.

Nationwide there are 438 admitted patients waiting for beds this morning in the country’s hospitals, according to today’s Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation Trolley Watch.

The UHK number includes two patients under the age of 16. Meanwhile, data from the HSE showed there was just one general bed vacant at the hospital up to 8pm on Wednesday evening, with no ICU beds available.

Spa Singer-Songwriter Kate To Release ‘Good Guys’

A LOCAL singer-songwriter is releasing a new single this Friday.

Kate Dineen from the Spa releases ‘Good Guys’ this Friday. The song has been chosen as one of Radio Kerry’s finalists as part of Ireland Music Month in association with Hot Press.

“Good Guys is a song about someone’s public persona and how that may be in conflict with what you know about them,” said Kate.

“I really struggled to be creative during lockdown, to get me out of a songwriting rut, I turned to my favourite Americana and Country songs and started uploading some covers to Instagram. Good Guys pays tribute to these by combining travis-picking accompaniment with my own style to create the track.

Walk-In Vaccination Clinic In Tralee This Afternoon

THERE is a walk-in vaccination clinic in Tralee this afternoon (Thursday).

It will take place in the vaccination centre at the former BorgWarner site in Monavalley between 3pm and 5pm. There is another walk-in vaccination clinic scheduled for next Monday from 3pm to 5pm.

Anyone aged 16 and older can attend a walk-in clinic alone, while children aged between 12 and 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No appointment is needed.

Meanwhile, the latest data for University Hospital Kerry up to Wednesday evening, shows there are 20 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the hospital and three suspected cases.

There are no ICU or High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds available and there is just one general bed vacant at the hospital.
