The event, being run by Kerry Motor Club, is now at an advanced stage of planning. The nine-stage route, which covers over 110km of competitive action, is sure to test some of the best drivers in the country.

The route, localised to the North Kerry area includes multiple variations to some classic stages. The Rally HQ will once again be at our title sponsor, The Rose Hotel, with the service park also located on the hotel grounds.

The rally is the second round of the Triton National Rally Championship. Kerry Clubman Noel O Sullivan was on the notes for Callum Devine as the Derry/Kerry combination took the top step of the podium at the championship opener in the Midlands Rally last weekend.

The Rose Hotel Circuit of Kerry is the opening round of the Top Park West Coast Championship, which is celebrating its 30th year of running and the second round of the local Central Car Sales Kingdom of Kerry Championship.

Speaking on the launch, 2023 Deputy Clerk of the Course Sean Moriarty said; “I would like to extend an invitation to everybody to come along on Wednesday, March 22nd as we officially launch the rally at The Rose Hotel.

“We are very much looking forward to welcoming a huge crowd to Tralee on the first weekend of April which is a timely boost to tourism numbers in the town during a typical downtime for the tourism sector. We are very much looking forward to meeting you all for the launch which is sure to be a night of chat and excitement as we build up to the off on April 1st”.

Know Your Rights: Employees Entitlements For Public Holidays

.

Know Your Rights has been compiled by Kerry Citizens Information Service which provides a free and confidential service to the public…

Q. As an employee, what are my entitlements in relation to Public Holidays?

Most employees are entitled to paid leave on public holidays. There is an exception for certain part-time employees

If you qualify for public holiday benefit, you are entitled to one of the following:

• A paid day off on the public holiday
• An additional day of annual leave
• An additional day’s pay
• A paid day off within a month of the public holiday

You can ask your employer at least 21 days before a public holiday, which of the alternatives will apply. If your employer does not respond at least 14 days before the public holiday, you are entitled to take the actual public holiday as a paid day off.

Continued below…

.

Q. As a part-time worker, what is my entitlement to in relation to Public Holidays?

You are entitled to a day’s pay for the public holiday if you have worked for your employer at least 40 hours in the 5 weeks before the public holiday and the public holiday falls on a day you normally work

If you are required to work that day you are entitled to an additional day’s pay in lieu of the day off.

If you do not normally work on that particular day, you should get one-fifth of your weekly pay. Even if you are never rostered to work on a public holiday, you are entitled to one-fifth of your weekly pay as compensation for the public holiday.

Q. What is my entitlement if the public holidays falls on a weekend?

When a public holiday falls on a day which is not a ‘normal working day’ for that business (for example, on Saturday or Sunday), you are still entitled to benefit for that public holiday.

For example, you may get an extra day of annual leave, or an additional days pay, or a paid day off within a month of the public holiday. However, you do not have any automatic legal entitlement to have the next working day off work.

Q. What are my rights if I am on sick leave on a public holiday?

If you work full-time and you are on sick leave during a public holiday, you are entitled to benefit for the public holiday you missed.

Your employer can also choose to regard you as not on sick leave on the public holiday and pay you as normal for the public holiday. If this is the case, the public holiday is not counted as a sick leave day.

If you are a part-time worker and  you are on sick leave during a public holiday, you are entitled to benefit for the public holiday, once you worked for your employer for at least 40 hours in the previous five-week period .

Continued below…

.

You are not entitled to pay or time off for the public holiday if you are on sick leave immediately before the public holiday, and either of the following apply:

• You have been off work for more than 26 weeks due to an ordinary illness or an accident
• You have been off work for more than 52 weeks due to an occupational accident

Q. What can I do if I am not getting my public holiday entitlement?

If you are not getting your public holiday entitlement, you should discuss this with your employer.

You can also complain to the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) under the Organisation of Working Time Act. You must make your complaint using the WRC’s online complaint form within 6 months of the dispute or complaint occurring.

This time limit may be extended for a further 6 months, but only where there is a reasonable cause which prevented you from bringing the complaint within the normal time limit.

You should contact your local Citizens Information Centre for information and assistance re making a complaint to the WRC and the WRC Adjudication process.

• For anyone needing information, advice or have an advocacy issue, you can call a member of the local Citizens Information team in Kerry on 0818 07 7860, they will be happy to assist and make an appointment if necessary. The offices are staffed from Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm.  Alternatively you can email on tralee@citinfo.ie or log on to www.citizensinformation.ie for further information.

Sponsored: Award-Winning Tribella Treatment Available At CHRC

.

Mary O’Donnell of the Cosmetic and Hair Restoration Clinic at the Bon Secours Hospital on the Tribella treatment available there…

One of Harley Street’s most popular treatments, the ‘Tribella’ is also available in Tralee at the CHRC, Bon Secours Hospital.

This award-winning, FDA approved treatment is the latest in non-invasive treatments for smoother, clearer and younger looking skin. It is a complete facial rejuvenation therapy which combines the power of three unique treatments.

The first step of Tribella is skin tightening with amazing results on skin laxity which also diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The second step is IPL, which will work on pigmentation and redness. The result is glowing, younger-looking skin. The final step of Tribella is skin resurfacing, which naturally boosts collagen and elastin production for total skin renewal and resurfacing.

All our skin types and concerns are different and so the number of sessions required will depend on the individual.

Allow the next day for downtime as the skin must be kept completely dry for 24 hours; no water or makeup or creams on the skin, so early in the week is great for this treatment if you have weekend plans!

This treatment offers fast and long lasting results  that continue over time. After completing the series of Tribella most of our patients can expect to see their results about three months after their final session,

For the ultimate facial rejuvenation here at CHRC, call us on 086 0786120 or send an email to chrc@bonsecours.ie www.bonsecourschrc.ie

Finnegan On Films: Who’s Going To Win All The Oscars?

.

Our movie guy, James Finnegan gives his predictions for the main awards at the Oscars…

This weekend it is not so much lights, camera, action as more glitz and glamour with a particular Green tint to proceedings.  Yes TraleeToday.ie is going to the Oscars.  Well, sort of.

There are unprecedented numbers of Irish nominations this year, fourteen nominations no less, both in front and behind the camera, including notable first time recognition for an Irish Language film.  Let’s have a look at what is possible.

Best Picture: There are ten Best Picture nominations, but I think we can narrow down a number of contenders, including ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, ‘Triangle of Sadness’ and ‘Women Talking’ although all, particularly the latter, are fine films in their own respect.

Continued below…

.

‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ was an early front runner, but as the year has gone on, its momentum has lessened, and other films have come to the fore particularly in the other major awards.

Colin Farrell and Barry Keoghan in The Banshees Of Inisherin.

Steven Spielberg’s autobiographical ‘The Fabelmans’ will no doubt garner many votes, and the success of ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ winning the BAFTA has added an additional piquancy to deliberations.

However, ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ would appear to be in pole position.

Best Director: For all the reasons noted above, it would appear that The Oscar will follow the Directors Guild and Producers Guild Award to the bookshelf of Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert for ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’.

Paul Mescal in Aftersun.

Best Actor: You do not often see two Irish Actors in this category.  Again, Colin Farrell was in early contention for Banshees, especially after he and Austin Butler for ‘Elvis’ won Golden Globes.

Then Brendan Fraser won the Screen Actors Guild for ‘The Whale’.  Unfortunately Bill Nighy (‘Living’) and Paul Mescal; (‘Aftersun’) seem out of contention.

Continued below…

.

I would love Colin Farrell to win, but it could go him, Brendan Fraser or Austin Butler.

Best Actress: Perhaps the most talked about category of all with Cate Blanchett (‘Tar’) and Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once) the two favourites with probably Cate picking up her third Oscar.

Best Supporting Actor: Another category with two Irish Actors in this category with Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan for Banshees both n contention.

However you have two other contenders who have great comeback stories in Judd Hirsch (The Fabelmans) and Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once) and suspect the later will bring home Oscar.

Best Supporting Actress: I would love to see Kerry Condon add an Oscar to her BAFTA for Banshees, but I feel it will be between Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) and Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once) with the later favourite.

An Cailin Ciuin.

Other Irish Interest is for  Best International Feature (An Cailin Cluin/The Quiet Girl), Best Editing and Best Original Screenplay (Banshees), Best Live Action Short (An Irish Goodbye), Best Visual Effects for Richie Baneham (Avatar: The Way Of Water).

I think the best hopes lie in Best Original Screenplay and Live Action Short but all these nominations are spectacular confirmation of Irish Cinema talent.
