Kerins O’Rahillys GAA Club News

.

Seniors:

Our group campaign opens next weekend when we play Laune Rangers in Austin Stack Park on Friday night, 26th July where the throw in is @ 19.30.

We kicked off our league campaign on March 23rd last against the same opposition who proved too good on the night winning by 6 points; the Killorglin side would go on to have a fine campaign whereas we escaped relegation on the final day of the season.

Both teams will have developed during the competition and will hope to have found their best combinations – injuries, holidays will have an impact but whatever teams take to the pitch a great game is assured.

We will play Kilcummin and Listowel Emmets in the other group games – dates and venues to be decided.

We will host the meeting of our neighbours, Austin Stacks and John Mitchels on Saturday evening 27th in Strand road in their opening game – throw in is @ 16.00

Congratulations to Ross O’Callaghan and Tracey Stack who got married on Friday last – Ross will go down in history as our Munster club winning captain and we wish himself and Tracey a long, happy and healthy life together.

We would like to wish our senior player Seán Walsh and his fiancée Emma Curtin all the best as they will walk down the aisle next Saturday to begin married life – go maire sibh bhur saol nua!

A big bualadh bos to Declan Quill and the Kerry ladies who defeated Armagh on Saturday evening in the All Ireland semi final on a scoreline of 1-08 to 0-07 in Tullamore. It was a tough game, with Kerry in the ascendancy at half time, 1-07 to 0-05 but they had to withstand a powerful Armagh fight back and did so in style with some heroic defending.

This win sees them qualify for their third All Ireland final in a row which will take place in two weeks time in Croke Park where Galway will be the opposition having disposed of Cork.

Lotto:

The lotto jackpot  has reached €13,200, the highest in history. There were some many near misses on Monday night last with 8 participants matching 3 numbers.

Tickets are on sale from the Klub, Rock St PO, Jimmy’s Food Store and Betty’s bar – you can play online @ https://play.clubforce.com/play_newa.asp?ll_id=328#Anchor

Juvenile academy:

Our academy  continued Sunday Morning in Pat Healy Park for all age groups,  U5 to U10 Boys and Girls.  Everyone enjoyed their training session with their coaches learning their skills, the drills laid out by their coaches followed by fun games and a treat to finish off the session.  We look forward to seeing everyone again next week

U9 Boys v Keel

U9 Boys:

Our U9s hosted Keel Tuesday evening at Pat Healy Park under perfect conditions. Our boys delivered an outstanding performance, showcasing significant progress in recent weeks. A big thank you to Keel for making the journey!

U11 Boys in Fitzgerald Stadium

U11 Boys:

Our U11s had a great day playing on the hallowed turf of Fitzgerald Stadium in the Munster U11 blitz. The lads played 4 games against Kerry and Cork opposition and acquitted themselves excellently.

The lads were given a guided tour of the dressing room area by clubman and Kerry selector Micheál Quirke.  A huge thanks to the U11 management who made themselves available to be with the lads Tuesday and to all the parents who brought the lads to Killarney.

Minors:

Best of luck to our minors who play Finuge Monday 22nd July in the Keane’s Supervalu Minor Club Championship in Austin Stack Park at 6pm.  All support welcome

Ladies Notes:

Congratulations to the Kerry Senior Ladies and management especially our very own Declan Quill on their fantastic win against Armagh Saturday evening.  Wishing them every success in the final in two weeks.

U14 girls in Ballybunion

U14 Girls:

A team comprising a mixture of our under 14 and under 12 girls made the trip to sunny Ballybunion on Thursday for a challenge game against Beale. In near perfect conditions at Stack Park, the two teams entertained the crowd with a high-scoring, highly competitive game. There was little between the two teams in the first half, with Lily Hussey putting in another impressive performance in the forwards. We trailed by two points going in at the break but came right back into it in the second half, with some super goal scoring by Ava O’Donoghue at full forward.

However it wasn’t our day and Beale eventually triumphed on a score line of 6-11 to 6-8.   Special mention to Ruby Foley who gave a sterling performance at centre back, and to all our players who left everything on the pitch and continue to improve with each game.

Thanks to Ellie, Katelyn, Amelia and Ava who stepped up from the Under 12s to help us out; Emma who came to watch and ended up playing in goals (!) and the Beale management team who gave us such a warm welcome.

Another challenge match against Abbeydorney next week – keep an eye on ClubsApp for details.

U16 Girls

U16 Girls:

A great win Thursday evening for our u16 girls in their 2nd round of division 2 county league, final  score line of 6-12 to 2-10;  our girls battled hard, played out of their skin and got their win.  Wishing Donna a happy 16th birthday, it  was a great way to finish.

Senior Ladies:

Well done to our Senior Ladies who had a hard earned  win in the first round in the county league v Ballymacelligott in Ballyrickard on Monday night.

Thank you to the coaches for sending on their reports and pictures for club notes every week.

There was great support from the sideline which was truly inspiring cheering on the players with enthusiasm and encouragement. Thank you to Kerins O’Rahillys  for hosting and Well done to all involved!

Minor Team – Unlucky for our boys who played away to Ballymac on last Monday evening. Some good scores from both sides ensured an entertaining game for the crowd.

The initial exchanges were pretty even, and even though we went ahead after a brilliant goal, Ballymac’ finished the half with an 8 point lead. We never gave up with some great high fielding and tackles going in giving us good turnover ball and a platform to attack.

We brought it back to three points and did brilliantly to create some chances towards the end but were unlucky not to score. Hard luck to our mentors and all the boys who showed real spirit and determination this evening.

Congrats to Ballymac on the win this evening on a score line of Ballymac: 1-19 (22) to John Mitchels 2-13 (19). Well done to John Mitchels player Fionán Brosnan who was in action at the weekend v Mayo playing at half back. Kerry won 16 points to 10. Well done to the management and team.

Under 13 Boys – Our teams travelled to An Ghaeltacht on Sunday morning where both the Green and Gold teams were victorious. Despite the appalling weather conditions there was great footballing skills on display by both sides. Details for this week will be issued by WhatsApp.

Under 15 Boys – On Wednesday night the U15s play local rivals Na Gaeil in Round 4 of the Central League. The game proved to be a very tight affair that was ultimately decided on two score.

Our lads can be very proud of their contribution to a very entertaining and keenly fought game. While the result didn’t go our way in the end, the disappointment of loosing was far outweighed but the joy of having Calvin O’Sullivan make his return to competitive footballwith John Mitchels!!

Calvin has been in all our thoughts as he fought his way back from a serious injury and everyone associated with the club got a great boost seeing him come on in the second half of Wednesday nights game (For the record he kicked 1-3. No small feat in his first game back!!).

Tralee Parnells GAA Club News

Tralee Parnells Minors that lined out in Div 1 Co League Final in Austin Stacks Park last Thursday

Minor Hurling

Tralee Parnells 4-12

Ballyduff 3-21

Our Minor hurlers created history last Thursday evening in Austin Stacks Park as the first minor team from the club to reach a Division 1 Co League Final.

On a beautiful evening for hurling on a well prepared pitch, Parnells and their Ballyduff opponents served up a fantastic game of hurling.

After a close first half where Parnells took the lead, including a great goal by William Somers, but Ballyduff levelled it up by half time (Parnells 1-7 Ballyduff 0-10), the second half was even better. Scores were exchanged at either end until a wonder goal by Luke Hanafin for Parnells pushed them 5 points clear.

However, Ballyduff responded straight away with a goal of their own by man of the match Dylan Costello. Parnells were then dealt a hammer blow when they were reduced to 14 men with Conor Dennehy sent off for 2 yellow card offences within minutes of each other, though most onlookers judged that they were harshly awarded.

Parnells had their backs to the wall at that stage and with the benefit of the extra man, Ballyduff pushed on, scoring 1-3 in added time. Overall it was a great performance by our lads and they should take immense pride in it.

They now need to dust themselves down as they prepare for the Co Minor Championship, where they will play Div 2 winners St Brendans in the quarter final in a few weeks time.

Tralee Parnells: 1. Cian Harris 2. Mark Farrell 3. David Moore 4. Ryan Sheehy 5. Conor Dennehy 6. Tomas O’Connell 7. Jack Shanahan 8. Dan Maloney 9. Brian Reidy 10. Liam O’Connell 11. Christian Kennedy 12. Luke Hanafin 13. William Somers 14. Eoghan Costello 15. Daniel Spring

Tralee Parnells U15s that defeated Lixnaw in NK Championship last Friday

 U15 Hurling
Big win last Friday evening for our Under 15 hurlers against Lixnaw in the North Kerry Championship. Despite both teams being down a number of starters, our lads played some fantastic hurling and picked off some great scores.

We joined up with the U10s this morning for a great session, we worked on our ball retention and the complicated art of the block down which the girls made look very easy indeed. The girls organised a game of rounders which was great fun and to finish we had a very exciting penalty shootout. A great morning was had by players and coaches alike!!!!!

Well done to the fourteen girls who played in the Kerry LGFA 50th anniversary blitz on Sunday in Kerry GAA’s Centre of Excellence in Currans. The girls played three games against Milltown/Castlemaine, Scartaglin and Firies and despite being down a few players, all the girls tried their best. Thanks to the parents for getting the girls there on time for the early start and also to Kerry LGFA for hosting a great event. Here is a picture of the team with coaches Noel and Joe and another picture with the Firies team after our final game.

U13

Na Fianna 1-08
St Pats 2-07

St Pats U13s made the long journey on Sunday evening to Templenoe for their first game in the U13 Central Region competition. We started the game well but, playing into a strong breeze, found it difficult to convert scores.

We went into half time trailing five points to one. We rallied well in the second half and scored three points without reply. Thomas Colivet then played a great left foot pass into Rylan Flynn who turned and finished brilliantly into the corner of the goal. St Pats were now in front and in control.

We added more scores through Rylan, Darragh Flahive and Rian Flynn. A bit of indiscipline then cost us and let Na Fianna back into the game. They took a quick free that put their full forward in for a goal and Na Fianna back in front. We then traded scores, our points coming from Noah Flynn and Darragh Sheahan.

Going into the closing stages, with the game in the balance, Darragh Flahive pounced on a loose ball. He slotted the ball underneath the keeper for the decisive score, and a great win for St Pats. It was a brilliant team performance, and most of the boys played their best game of the season.
Hugh Costello, Jace Flynn and Darragh Sheahan were superb in defence, while up front Rylan was composed and always a threat. Special mention to Rian Flynn who excelled in midfield, worked really hard, and was our player of the match.

We are taking a break from training Monday night, and we will return on Wednesday evening at later time of 8pm.

Minors

Our minors came away with a win against Knocknagoshel/Brosna last week in Keane’s Club Minor Championship Semi Final Group D. They are in the final which took place on Monday night 22nd of July in Austin Stacks Park at 6pm against Finuge in the final.

Senior B’s

Our senior Round 3 game in Tralee/St Brendan’s Junior League took place last Tuesday night against Ardfert, the opposition opened their scoring with a point. St Pats Players Patrick Dowling, Jack Lynch, making his senior debut once more Kieran Hurley and David O’Callahan all added scores to put us in the lead.

A beautiful hand pass from Liam Poff into the waiting hands of Jack Lynch allowed him to rattle Ardfert net. Kieran Hurley making his mark with a goal of his own to keep us in the lead.

Three points coming from Ardfert to narrow the lead, another point from Kieran Hurley kept our momentum going for this half. Three more points coming from Ardfert to finish the first half St Pats 2-04 Ardfert 0-07

Ardfert came out determined to reduce the scoring between both teams with a point quickly in the beginning of the second half, back and forth scoring between the two teams with scores coming from Kieran Hurley, David O’Callaghan, Jack Lynch, Eoghan Dillane and Shane Foley.

Ardfert made a strong push and accumulated four goals and nine points during the match. Our seniors played an impressive game of football despite the result in the end St Pats 2-11 Ardfert 4-17

St Pats Team: Tomas Kennedy, James Dowling, Ben Sharp, Mike Doody, Dylan Griffin, Brian Murphy, Cormac Lynch, Liam Poff, Patrick Dowling, Cian O’Shea, David O’Callaghan, Anthony Flynn, Jack Lynch, Kieran Hurley, and Danny Greaney
