MITCHELS and SPA will get another go at promotion to Division 1 after a passionate encounter in Brosna last week.

Sunday’s match got the blood pumping for a few different reasons.

Before the exciting match finished 1-15 apiece, in extra-time a melee involving players, mentors and even at one point a few fans, threatened to spoil the toughly-contested match.

But thankfully those involved eventually came to their senses and we were treated to a thrilling finale.

On full-time the crowd filtered out of Brosna like what happened was ancient history. It’s the way John Mitchels manager, Ger Dan Dennehy, will be looking at it.

His charges will be focusing on the positives despite squandering a two point lead, late, late on in the match.

“To be honest we left it behind us a small bit all right,” said Ger Dan speaking to TraleeToday.ie on Friday. “You got to give Spa 100% credit as well, they kept going to the bitter end.”

“There was a small bit of disappointment after, but the most important thing to realise is we’re still there. Things would have been a lot worse if we lost by a point. There’s no point in being negative about these things because you can’t do anything about what’s gone.”

“The year has been long so it’s trying to keep fellas motivated is the most important thing, but in general we’re not doing too bad.”

Thankfully, Ger Dan is happy to report no major injuries just a few “bumps and bruises” ahead of the game, which could see a return to Division 1 for the Tralee men for the first time since 2003.
