A PLAY about mental health issues, written and performed by a youth theatre group, took place in Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí on Tuesday evening.
The production was devised, written and produced by a seven strong cast of Dúisigh youth theatre members who are based in Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí, where they hold weekly rehearsals.
The play, ‘Walking The Tightrope’ was the culmination of a three years of work and explores mental health issues in young people, looking at some contributing factors involved.

“We looked at a few issues before devising it and we decided that mental health was the most relevant issue,” said Dúisigh member Saoirse Ferris.
‘Walking The Tightrope’ is the group’s third production.
The two other are, a street theatre performance about the obsession with social media called ‘Free Wifi’ and ‘Talk’, which deals with the issues around bullying.
“The reaction from the plays has been positive, people seem affected by it in a good way,” said Kate Moore of Dúisigh.
Some members in the group are doing their leaving cert and looking at moving on and studying drama at third level.
Dúisigh is affiliated with the National Association for Youth Drama in Ireland (NAYD) who give them chance to be involved in workshops and meet other theater groups from around the country. New members of the Duisigh are always welcome, for more information call Anita Pannell on 087-2762339.
