Na Gaeil Ladies    Na Gaeil V Corca Dhuibhne in Intermediate Championship Quarter Final. We played at home on Thursday evening to Corca Dhuibhne in a highly competitive encounter.

We got off to a great start with a goal and a point from Megan O’Connor followed by a point from Meagan Sheehy. Louise Ni Mhuircheartaigh scored two points. Jadyn scored 1.01 before another point apiece from Megan Sheehy and Meagan O’Connor.

Corca Dhuibhne replied with two more points and one more from Louise before half time. The Corca Dhuibhne defence found it tough to get through our full line of Sarah Quigley, Susan and Muireann. Eilis, Deirdre and Brid made it tough for the Corca Dhuibhne girls to get through and with Mary and Nora winning midfield  we went in at halftime with a 2.05 to 0.05 lead.

We came out at the start of the 2nd half and scored 2.01 with a point from Meagan and a goal apiece from Jadyn and Ayesha. Corca Dhuibhne managed to pick off five points from free kicks as they struggled to get through our back line as Sarah Barrett and Clodagh O’Connor came in with fresh legs.

Erika and Carla came into the forwards. Clodagh McHugh and Nora O’Connell scored a point a piece before Corca scored another two points to finish the game on a scoreline of 4.08 to 0.12. It was a great team display that saw us through to  the semi final against Beaufort.

Na Gaeil v Beaufort , Intermediate Championship Semi Final: On Sunday  we played  Beaufort in a highly competitive game. Beaufort started with two points as we struggled to convert our chances but Ayesha was found in space by Megan O’Connor and Ayesha found the back of the net.

There was no score for the next ten minutes as Beaufort were making it hard for us to convert our chances. But Meabh scored a point with good composure to settle us down before Megan O’Connor scored a point for us.

Beaufort scored two more points before a driving run from Meagan Sheehy into the box saw the Beaufort keeper make a save but Meagan found the back of the net with the rebound. Nora popped another point over the bar followed by another point from Meabh and a free from Meagan.

Beaufort scored another two points before half time for a scoreline of 2.05 to 0.05. Megan O’Connor and Clodagh Mc Hugh combined to set up Meabh for the 1st point of the 2nd half with Beaufort replying.

Meagan scored a point after a great pass from Ayesha but Beaufort replied again with a point after a point blank save from Laura in goals. Meabh scored another point after Jadyn won their kick out. Beaufort scored their last point of the game on the 8th minute of the 2nd half as our defence took control with Sarah B, Susan and Kate Anne putting their bodies on the line to keep Beaufort out.

With all of Laura’s excellent kickouts we had no issues keeping control of the game. Eilis and Brid were either side of the immense Deirdre Kearney in the half back line.

Nora and Mary battled and battled in midfield and won the exchanges there. Our half forwards were outstanding with Jadyn, Ayesha and Meagan working hard on their kickouts. With Megan O’Connor and Clodagh McHugh winning some of their kickouts we kept the pressure on them as Megan O’Connor scored a point from a kickout.

But the composure of Meabh kept us ticking to the end as she set up Jadyn for a goal. Deirdre made another drive out from defence with two players hanging off but still found Nora to pop the ball over the bar. Clodagh O’Connor, Freya and and Mags came into defence to help shore up the defence with Erika, Carla and Erika coming into the forward line.

Eilis set up Erika for her goal and the last score of the game to finish on a scoreline of 4.10 to 0.08. It was a great team performance as everyone on the field had to support and fight for each other in this epic battle as we left blood and tears on the field.
