SO the weekend has finally arrived and you’re wondering what’s on around the place and what to do? Here’s a few suggestions, from tasting great food to listening to mellifluous music…

Friday

1. Did you got to Listellick NS? Then you should head along to St Brendan’s Church tonight at 7pm for a special celebration to mark the school’s 150th anniversary.

First there will be a Mass, followed by the launch of a special book compiled by a special committee to mark the milestone at the Pastoral centre next door. No doubt many old schoolmates will meet again.

2. It’s your chance to taste delicious food produce as Taste of Kerry returns to Manor West from noon to 6pm.

There’s great breads, paella, cakes, jams and pates so you can support local producers. It’s on Sunday as well.

3. And it’s all over for another year. The Kerry Film Festival draws to a close with its annual awards ceremony  and closing movie (which is a secret at the moment) at Siamsa Tire. If movies and good film-making is your thing, then this is for you. Tickets for the event cost €10 from Siamsa at 066-7123055.

Sunday

4. Tralee will turn black and amber as the Rockie army are sure to bring colour to Austin Stack Park for their side’s clash with Dingle at 2pm. It should be a great spectacle so if you’re a football fan it’s the place to be.

It’s part of a double header which sees Shannon Rangers lock horns with Mid-Kerry at 3.45pm so we’ll know the county finalists by just after 5pm…barring a draw or two of course.

5. Music lovers won’t want to miss a special concert in Our Lady and St Brendan’s Church this Sunday.

OPUS’96 Chamber Choir and 12 other choirs from all over Kerry will host the biggest choral concert ever seen in Kerry at 8pm.

There is no cover charge, but it is hoped to get lots of donations with all proceeds going to JIGSAW/Headstrong (Kerry Branch). See full story here
