Kerins O’Rahillys GAA Club News

Senior:

We will commence our senior championship campaign on Sat night next 16th Sept in Austin Stack Park where divisional side Shannon Rangers will be the opposition.

With two teams to advance to the quarter finals, a good start is required and the two points on offer on Sat night are within our reach; Shannon Rangers will be able to call on players of the calibre of Jason Foley, Shane Enright, Robert Stack, Adam Segal  and Kevin Goulding and will be a tough nut to crack.

Spa and Mid Kerry will go toe to toe on Sunday 17th in Austin Stack park in the other game in the group.

The draw for round 2 will be made following the outcome of the opening round fixtures.

Junior:

Our B team will compete in the McElligott Cup and have drawn Currow at home in the opening round – following an impressive campaign in Div 6 the management team are hopeful of an extended run in this competition.

Fixture details will be announced on social media platforms once known.

Nótaí na mBan:

With football still going strong a timely reminder of “Give Respect, Get Respect “ both on and off the pitch.

We love to see our supporters enjoy matches and help create a wonderful atmosphere .

Back in March the LGFA launched ‘Take a Second’ respect campaign. This is aimed at encouraging and celebrating a culture of positivity and mutual respect among all members.

Commenting on the launch of the campaign, LGFA President Micheál Naughton said “The LGFA is constantly looking at how we can improve the levels of respect that all members and stakeholders show to each other. “

“ With the launch of this campaign, we are urging everybody involved in our Association, from players to coaches, referees, parents, spectators and volunteers to Take a Second and think about their next action and the potential impact it might have on another LGFA member. “

“ As LGFA members, we all have that duty of care to be responsible for the health, safety and well-being of our fellow members .“

So please take that second and before you say anything think of how you may be upsetting someone.

U12 GIRLS

Training continues on Wednesday for everyone. Looking forward to seeing you then. Messages will be sent early in the week.

The Kerins O’Rahillys team who took part in the Sandra Keane U13 football tournament at John Mitchels GAA Club on Saturday.

SANDRA KEANE TOURNAMENT

Our U13 girls competed in the annual Sandra Keane memorial invitational tournament last Saturday. The venue was John Mitchels GAA Complex and the heat was only stifling on the day.

Kerins O’ Rahillys team had a bye for the first game.

Their opening group game was against a very strong Abbeydorney team who later went on to play in the cup final. We were beaten by 5 points in this game.

Our second group game was against Shannonside / Tarbert and we were victorious. We had now qualified for the shield semifinal.

We were drawn with Castleisland Desmonds in what turned out to be a very exciting game in which we were beaten.

Well done to our team and management and to our captain Allie Kerins who showed tremendous leadership skills .

A huge thanks to North Kerry and especially James Hayes and Frank McLoughlin . Thanks also to Danielle who kindly treated the team and management to ice pops and ice for their water. It sure went down a treat!

We appreciate the support of the parents and club members who were there to cheer us on.

U16 GIRLS

Football is back for this age group…

The North Kerry league commences this week when our ladies are away to Ballymac in division 4.

Throw in will be at 6.30p.m. on Wednesday 13th.

U17 LADIES

Our U17s , led  by Sophie Hassett bowed out of the U17B Championship last Thursday at the semifinal stages when they were defeated by MKL Gaels in an extremely warm Pat Healy Park, Ballyrickard.

We dominated in the first few minutes but then playing with a breeze at their backs, our opponents took full advantage and dominated in the first half .

If they thought their work was done, our ladies had other ideas. Strand Road couldn’t have asked for a better start to the second half as we sent the ball into the back of the net.  In a blistering 15 minutes of the second half Strand Road had reduced the deficit to 6 points. We had started to regain our composure.

The last 15 minutes was exciting , with both teams fighting for every ball. Our ladies fought hard to keep themselves in the game right up to the final whistle giving a good account of themselves despite losing out on the scoreboard. Hard luck ladies!

Well done to everyone!  Thanks to MKL Gaels LGFA for travelling, and best of luck in the final.

SENIOR LADIES

Our seniors travelled to Castlegregory on Sunday last to take on Annascaul/ Castlegregory in round 4 of the Bon Secours Junior B Championship .

Led by captain Maedhbh Hanafin the girls battled hard in the first half and our opponents Annascaul/ Castlegregory took the lead. We came out strong in the second half and created a number of scoring chances which were excellently taken .

Final Score

Annascaul / Castlegregory 2-10 Kerins O’ Rahillys 0-11

Well done to everyone and best wishes to our ladies who are starting college and to those who are returning after the summer.
