Seniors:

It was very much  a case of missing the boat as Dingle forged a two point win in county league round 7 played on Saturday night in Páirc an Ághasaigh, winning  on a final scoreline of 0-14 to 1-09.

Dingle began brightly and with the aid of a stiff breeze had four points on the board, all from play by the 8th minute, before we opened our account via Conor Hayes following good interplay.

Soon after we were level, when Gearóid Savage was pulled down in the square following good work by Conor Hayes, and Jack stepped up to fire the resultant penalty to the net past báideoir Gavin O’Curnáin.

From here to the half time whistle we played some of our best football of the year, reeling off another 5 points to just 2 for Dingle to lead at half time by 3, 1-06 to 0-06.

The turnaround stemmed from midfield where Tom Hoare in particular and David Moran established a stranglehold and with strong running from the likes of Daniel Bowler from wing back and Darragh McElligott from deep we created many opportunities for our inside line where Conor Hayes, Jack and Gazza were prominent; Conor notched two from play, Darragh Mac was picked out with a lovely ball by Tom and split the posts before Tom pointed from a free to end the first half.

On the resumption we took up where we left off in the first half – Tom & David were in the ascendancy in the middle, our defence was solid resulting in plenty of opportunities up front.

However, we were wasteful in the extreme in this crucial period, kicking four wides whilst also dropping a number of balls into the keeper’s arms – it was Dingle who had the first score of the second half in the 8th minute, against the run of play, before Tom Hoare stopped the rot with a pointed free in the 15th minute; Dingle introduced Niall Geaney and along with his namesakes, Conor & Dylan began to haul Dingle back into the game – the sides were level on the 26th minute 1-09 to 0-12 as Jack and Conor Hayes added further minors to keep us in the game.

However, it was Dingle who were to finish the stronger with Dylan Geaney adding two frees to secure the points.

We did our best to redeem the situation but were left frustrated by some refereeing decisions leading to confusion and dissatisfaction among the players and spectators alike.

Div 6:

A much depleted side went down to a heavy defeat to Ballylongford on Friday night last in Ballylongford.

There was not much at stake for either side with both having qualified for the next phase,  details of which will be announced later.

Great credit is due to Denis Hanafin, Cathal Sheehy  and Seán Kissane who have made a great effort with this side and have been duly rewarded with a place in the final stages.

Inter County: 

It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for our players and mentors at inter county level.

Micheál Quirke was able to enjoy a stress free afternoon as Kerry destroyed Monaghan in the first round of the qualifiers on Saturday in Killarney – the game was over as a contest prior to the half time whistle where Kerry led by 0-15 to 0-02; elsewhere in Ennis, Mark Fitzgerald and Clare put it up to Cork losing by just two points in a game that hung in the balance right up to the final whistle.

Declan Quill enjoyed success with the Kerry senior ladies when winning the TG4 Munster title for the first time since 2017 – Kerry were comprehensive winners on a final scoreline of 2-15 to 0-13.

Tyrone were far too good for Kerry in the All Ireland U20 final played in Portlaoise on Sunday – commiserations to our quartet of Tomás Kennedy, Ben Hanafin, Darragh O’Connor and coach Maurice Horan.

Academy:

Another fantastic morning was had by all in the  academy on  Sunday morning in a beautiful sunny Pat Healy Park.

It was great to have our sun cream dispenser in place on such a gorgeous morning. All age groups enjoyed a fun morning of football going over the skills they have been practicing over the last few weeks at training and at home;  thanks to Declan for compiling these skill videos to share with all age groups through clubzap.  These videos are to help our Juveniles and their parents to continue to practice at home as well as at training every Sunday morning.

Our U10 Boys team had an early start Sunday morning for the long trip to Dublin to participate in the Kilmacud Crokes tournament at a sun-drenched UCD.

Our boys played outstanding football and didn’t disappoint. The boys were incredibly well behaved and it was an amazing day out for everyone. Kudos to Kilmacud for the exceptional hospitality and making us feel so welcome.

Our U8 and U10 Girls will travel to Castleisland Desmonds for their second round of go games next Sunday 26th May at 10am and Our U9 boys will welcome Castleisland Desmonds to Ballyrickard next Sunday morning at 10am.

U13 Boys

A Great win away in South Kerry Sunday evening  for our KOR U13 A team, score line 4-10 to St Michaels Foilmore Skellig Rangers and KOR 4-11 in a game that sometimes spilled into a physical encounter .

The home team gave everything in the last 10 minutes to bring the game back to a single score but after having to take Caden O’Sullivan off due to a nasty cut and Kyle Power also leaving the field of play with another knock, we left with a one point victory.

Man of the match, Goalkeeper Kyle Smith made 3 brilliant saves,  Tadgh Lawlor was outstanding all evening and the Quirke boys put in real good shifts for their team.

We were delighted to gain the win on the road.  Training continues Wednesday evening at 6.30pm.  The boys will play Laune Rangers at home next Sunday evening  in Ballyrickard.

U13 Boys B Team: 

A second win on the bounce for the U13 B team after a battling display away to Cromane/Glenbeigh/Glencar Sunday evening.   The boys were two points down at half time, but a goal by Ryan early in the second led the fight back.  Harry and Jan kept the forwards supplied with ample ball throughout the game. Final score 4:18 to 2:08. Training continues Wednesday evening at 6.30pm.  The boys have a bye next week.

Everyone in the Juvenile Academy would like to congratulate club member and Coach Declan Quill and the Kerry Senior Ladies and Management on winning their first Munster Championship since 2017 after beating Cork in Mallow on Saturday.

LADIES

U14 Girls:

Our U14 Girls Strand Road team continued their County league campaign Sunday evening with a home game in Pat Healy Park, Ballyrickard v Spa, Killarney. Some fantastic football played by both teams on a perfect evening for football. Well done to both teams!

U16 Girls:

Two good training sessions were put in again this week, numbers were a bit low on Tuesday as some of our girls were brought up to play with the minor team.  A  good tough session on Thursday with big numbers including some U14’s staying on to train – they are always welcome to join in this group.

We are now awaiting our date for our first final of the year… details to follow.

Minor Ladies:

Our Minor ladies, captained by Lauren, hosted Scartaglin last Tuesday evening in Pat Healy Park, Ballyrickard in Division 3, round 5 of the County League.  A great performance from the girls and great skills on display from both teams, with our ladies taking the win on the day. Thank you to the U16 girls who came up to play with us.  Well done to everyone!
