PEOPLE from all over the county and beyond are expected to take part in a 10k run from Kerins O’Rahilly’s on February 1 to raise funds for the Strand Road club.

The event is in conjunction with the ‘Run The Kingdom’ organisation and is part of their calendar of runs for 2015.

“It’s a community-based event,” said Peter Nolan of the fundraising committee. “The run takes place in the community. It actually finishes with a lap of Cahill’s Park, which is one of the oldest estates in the area, before heading back to the clubhouse.”

It’s also a chance to renew rivalries with GAA clubs as Peter explained.

“We’re also inviting all clubs to enter teams. The best three finishers from each club’s performances will be counted and the winning club will be presented with the John Dowling Memorial Trophy. We’ve also commissioned a beautiful medal and every finisher of the run will receive one,” he said.

The event is on the same day as the Kerry v Mayo National League game in Killarney and Kerins O’Rahilly’s have been in touch with Mayo GAA clubs to invite them to take part.

“The run starts at 10am [9.30am for walkers] so there’ll be plenty time to make the game in Killarney after,” assured Peter.

The run starts from the club’s car park, up Ballyvelly and to the Kerries out towards the Spa/Fenit Road, left at Knockanish, past the driving range and back to Cahill’s Park and the clubhouse. (click here for route map)

Registration is €20 and people can register online by clicking here or at the clubhouse from 7pm-9pm on each Wednesday, from now until the race. People can also register that morning at the club from 8am-9am.
