While there, Donaghy, spoke to children explaining that if they work harder, they will reap the rewards, drawing a comparison between the Active Flag Award success for Derryquay and Kerry’s All-Ireland triumph in Croke Park last September.
The Active School Flag award recognises schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and active school community.
“This is a result of the energy and dedication of teachers, parent and children and the support of members of the community and sporting organisations,” read a statement from the Derryquay National School.
The award is given by the Department of Education and Skills and is open to primary, post primary, special schools and Youthreach centres.
