FOLLOWING on from the success of other masters basketball tournament across the country, the first ever Kerry masters tournament was held over Saturday and Sunday.
The tournament is the brainchild of Tralee Tigers legend, Ricardo Leonard, a two time national title winner with the Tralee side.
“We’re very pleased how it turned out, we had a really good time which is what the tournament is all about,” said Ricardo Leonard.
“It’s great to bring back us older generation of players to get back and reminisce great games we had in the past,” said Ricardo.
“We want to make this an annual event and since next year is the 20th anniversary since Tralee Tigers won the national title in 1997 we want to make it special,” he said.
In total, seven men’s teams and five ladies took part, from places such as Dublin, Cork and Kilkenny, with a few Tralee players thrown in there as well.
A function was held on Saturday night in the Ballyroe Heights Hotel where Tony Burke, a referee for the last 40 years, received a special award for his contribution to basketball in Ireland.
