2015 Dingle Way Challenge:

The 2015 Dingle Way Challenge will take place on Sunday May 31st. This is the third year of this event, organised by St Pats GAA Club, which promises to be an exceptional day on the mountains, beaches and paths of West Kerry.

This year’s event is sponsored by Benner’s Hotel Tralee which is offering great overnight packages for our out of town visitors and will host our social evening for all participants on completion of the challenge.

The Challenge is a 40km walk taking participants from the foothills of Mt Brandon around through Ballydavid, Wine Strand, Clogher Strand, Dunquin, Slea Head and finishing in the famous Paidi O’Se’s bar.

The route takes in some of the most incredible scenery our country has to offer with views over the Blasket Islands, the historical village of Dunquin, Slea Head drive and many of the places made famous by the film Ryan’s Daughter.

The Challenge is achievable for most people with a reasonable fitness level and we have included an extra Ultra section which begins earlier in the morning for those who wish to test themselves further.

This Challenge gives locals and tourists alike a real opportunity to explore the Dingle Peninsula in a fun, safe and challenging environment.

All funds raised will be used for the development projects the club is undertaking to enhance our facilities for our players, members and the greater community. Don’t stay in bed on the bank holiday weekend.

Get up early, test yourself, meet new people and see what Kerry has to offer! Register at http://www.active.com/tralee-cokerry/walking/dingle-way-challenge-2015

U 14’s: St Pats 2-4 Finuge 2-12

The co league final was played in very windy conditions in Mitchells on Wednesday last and unfortunately came up against a very strong Finuge team who were victorious on the night.

The game was played at a very fast pace and St Pats started the first half playing with a strong breeze but it was Finuge who were playing the better football. This game had every thing in it with some great displays by all who took part and there was great banter between the two sets of  supporters in the stand .

St Pats were under pressure from the start but with great defending from Cathal Fitzgibbon ,Martin Savage ,Bryan Teahan ,Ciaran O’Donoghue and Damien Quirke and with James O’Sullivan in goals they all dealt with the pressure well. First score went to Finuge when a high ball bounced over James s bar.

This was followed up by near misses from Finuge again who had St Pats under pressure even though they played against the wind. But up stepped Fergal O’Brien and answered
the call with a great goal and this rallied the team again. Ali Gardezi and Ian McCarthy worked hard to get the ball in to our forward s which was made up of Fergal O’Brien, Cormac Lynch, Tomas O’Sullivan ,Niall McCarthy and Patrick Dowling .

St Pats were now starting to come in to the game  and were working hard to stay in the game. A great pass from Cormac to Fergal who was unlucky not to follow his goal up with a point.

Hard work from St Pats backs worked the ball up to Fergal and he left the ball in to Cormac who got in to some great positions on the night. He twisted and turned his man and steadied himself to score a great point.

St Pats were now up and running and Patrick was getting on the ball he got our next score ,a cooly slotted point and was unlucky not to follow this with a goal that just went wide. Fergal followed this with a fantastic point and we were now back in the game Half time score Finuge 0-7 St.Pats 1-3.

The second half started with some changes Samuel Abubakar replaced Cormac. Finuge again started the stronger and scored some great points and again had our backs under pressure but great defending by Bryan, Cathal, Martin, Ciaran ,and Martin prevented more scores and James made a few good saves.

Damien made some great clearances but Finuge responded with some great scores and quickly got a goal which disheartened St Pats .Fergal and Ian ran at Finuge and Fergal was unlucky not to score a goal which would have rallied the team again.

Some more changes for St Pats with Paddy Murphy coming on but at this stage Finuge were cruising and were just too strong for St Pats on the night. Great play from Samuel afforded Patrick to kick a great point and this was the last score for St Pats.

The final whistle was blown and Finuge won out in  the end .They were the better team on the night and deserved the win. St Pats can hold their heads up high and have done all their supporters proud.

They have played brilliant all year and played with great heart. On this night all did well again even  when they were 5 and 6 points down. Everyone that took part did their bit it just wasn’t to be on this night. We now have Feile to look forward to.

Congrats to Finuge on a great win and I am sure that we will see many players from both these teams playing for Kerry in the years  to come.
