IT was a busy weekend for credit unions and for over 25,000 primary school children under the age of 13 who competed in their local credit union schools quiz throughout the 32 counties, in over 300 venues.
Tralee Credit Union held their Noreen Lynch Annual Schools Quiz on Sunday 29th of January in the Brandon Hotel Conference Centre, Tralee. This year, 180 students participated in their Quiz representing 23 primary schools throughout Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin and surrounding areas.
The questions, compiled nationally by primary school teachers covered such general topics as geography, history, music, literature and sport.
“We had great support from all the schools who battled it out for the fun filled action packed two hours,” said Suzanne Ennis, Marketing & Business Development Manager with Tralee Credit Union. “Our thanks to all the schools, students and their families and of course to Tralee Credit Union’s staff for making this event one of the biggest events on the school calendar.”
There were very tight scores among all the schools but at the end there were clear winners with a point a piece in the under 11s between 1st place winners St Brendan’s National School, Fenit, 2nd place winners Scoil Muire Gan Smal, Castleisland and 3rd place winners Ardfert National School.
In the under 13s category again there was a point a piece between Ardfert National School in 1st place and Scoil Mhuire, Killorglin in 2nd place.
The battle for 3rd place was between Holy Family National School and Scoil Eoin, Balloonagh, Tralee with Holy Family School winning the tie breaking round to secure the place.
Suzanne Ennis said; “All the teams were presented with goody bags with the winning teams and their schools each receiving trophies and cash prizes. Our 1st and 2nd place winners in both categories will now go on to represent Tralee Credit Union at the next stage of Credit Unions Schools Quiz, the Chapter (regional) round of the National Schools Quiz on Sunday 5th of March in Ballyroe Heights Hotel, Tralee.”
