PHOTOS: Tralee Pupils Excel At Credit Union Schools Quiz

SATURDAY saw Cara Credit Union hold the Noreen Lynch Annual Schools Quiz on at the Kerry Sports Academy.

However, they were not alone as 25,000 primary school children all over Ireland tested their brain power at their annual Credit Union Schools Quiz.

Primary school teachers from across the country compiled questions on general topics such as geography, history, music, literature and sport.

Cara Credit Union were delighted to host 81 teams from 43 primary schools throughout Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin, Ballyduff, Causeway, Corca Dhuibhne and surrounding areas as 324 children battled it out in a nerve-wrecking competition.

Following a very successful merger with Comhar Chreidmheasa Chorca Dhuibhne Teoranta, this year’s quiz was held billingually, allowing participants to participate in the quiz in either English or Irish.

The Credit Union School Quiz challenges local children to collaborate and showcase their talents as a team.

Pa Laide, CEO of Cara Credit Union, said; “We were thrilled with the support from all the schools who joined us for the fun-filled action-packed two hours. The talent in the room was amazing and it’s obvious that the future is in safe hands. We thank all the schools, students, families, and the Cara Credit Union team for making this event one of the biggest on the school calendar.”

In the Under 11 age category, the winners were decided by a single point with Spa National School coming out on top, 2nd place was awarded to Scartaglen National School and again by just a single point Scoil Lios Lellic came 3rd.

In the Under 13 age category, Castlegregory had very impressive score to come in 1st place, followed by two Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn teams, winning 2nd and 3rd place.

Siobhan Donnelly, Marketing Manager said, “We are humbled by the support we receive from our local schools and we wish to improve financial literacy for our future generations. The School Quiz and the Art Competition are two of the highlights of our year and we encourage all our younger members to get involved. This year we have also launched a youth Current Account with a globally accepted Mastercard debit card.”

1st and 2nd place winners in both categories will now go on to represent Cara Credit Union at the next stage of Credit Unions Schools Quiz, the Chapter (regional) round of the National Schools Quiz. Scroll down for photos…
