ARDFERT native Anne Lawlor raised €2,900 for Recovery Haven by taking on the ‘Swim for a Mile’ challenge at the University of Limerick.

“It was absolutely fabulous and a great experience,” said Anne who swam in the University’s 50 metre Olympic sized swimming pool.

Anne swam the mile (1,600 mtrs) in a time of 42 minutes which she says “is not bad for someone on the wrong side of 60!” (continued below)

In preparation for the challenge Anne trained three times a day. “I got great support and people were very generous,” she said.

Recovery Haven is based in Manor and provides psychological and social support for those living with cancer, their families and carers.

“I chose Recovery Haven as the charity because a first cousin of mine died from Cancer and I also have known a number of people down the years who have suffered with the disease,” Anne said.

“Recovery Haven is a local charity so I knew the money I raised would be used properly and go to the right people. They also don’t receive any funding from the State so they need all the help they can get,” she said.
