THE area around the Christie Hennessy statue could be set for a name change.
At the next meeting of the Tralee Municipal District of Kerry County Council on Monday, there will be a motion put forward that the area near the statue at Central Plaza/Abbeycourt be renamed ‘Christie Hennessy Place’.
The motion has been put forward by Cllr Sam Locke to “enhance the area” he said.
“I was speaking to the Hennessy family and they felt it would be nice to rename the area ‘Christie Hennesey Place’. So, I’m just running it to see what the other Councillors feel about it,” said Cllr Locke.

This is the latest proposal to honour one of Tralee’s most famous sons who passed away in 2007.
Plans are also mooted for a light that will shine across Central Plaza lighting up the Christie Hennessy statue, which was unveiled back in 2009.
Back in November, what would have been Christie Hennessy 7oth birthday a special floral tribute was laid by the memorial to honour the occasion.
The ceremony came just two weeks after the ‘The Christie Hennessy Festival’ which had one of its most successful years to date since it began back in 2011.
Central Plaza/Abbeycourt should of-course be renamed to further honour Christie Hennessy.
