ATLANTIC Oils ran their very first ‘Young Artist’ 2020 Competition which was designed to be a fun challenge to encourage kids across Kerry to create artwork that would be exhibited online in a digital gallery.

“We were aware that with everything being so uncertain that it would be a way for children to engage and explore their creativity,” said Brendan Horgan.

“We initially started out with two categories with a chance of winning a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize but due to huge level of applications we made the decision to introduce a third category.”

“We wanted to give the next generation an opportunity to get creative. We wanted them to inspire us with their imaginations and they certainly did! All entries were so well done and it was extremely hard when we were making our selection.

“We wanted to give them a prize that would help further aid their skills. Since the company was founded back in 1973 we’ve talked for years about running an art competition for years but we felt this was the perfect year to introduce this. I would like to thank all the children, students, parents and teachers for taking part in this year’s competition,” said Brendan.

The theme of the competition was ‘My Home’ as Brendan explained.

“We thought for the very first theme we would look no further than creating a brief that was very fitting for the year that was in it. Our theme for 2020 was ‘My Home’. We asked the students to create a piece of artwork about a place that has been familiar for you over the past few months but left it very much open for interpretation.

“It could have been be an indoor scene or outdoor scene. It could be their favourite room, their garden, their secret den or their house from the outside. It can be anything that relates to your home!

One thing that they had to include was our Atlantic Oils ‘Red Truck’. It could be have been outside the window, in the driveway or passing by their home… There was no limits! We even suggested they could even draw themselves driving it,” he said.
