CÓITSEÁIL: Last week’s club coaching session under Billy Lee, senior team coach/bainisteoir, David Lavin and Mickey Collins was a great success. It was most enjoyable and very beneficial to all the Juvenile Section coaches who took part. This week’s session has been scheduled for this Tuesday 20th June (7pm to 9pm). It is being held in conjunction with a senior team training/game session. Come along to this week’s worthwhile session even if you were as láthair an tseachtain seo caite! B’fhiú go mór é! (Tadhg Mac Mathúna)

PEIL FAOI 13: (i) An exciting and entertaining U13 County League (Division 2) final was played in the John Mitchel Club grounds on Sunday last. Final score….AdeS A: 1-12; Na Gaeil A: 4-10.

The Stack Club A squad gallantly fought a great battle in this final and it was only some late goals by Na Gaeil that killed off their brave challenge. A heavy shower just before throw-in ensured that this game was played on a slippery slimy surface le liathróid a bhí slim sleamhain.

All that made ball-handling, passing and the pick-up very tricky indeed! The Rock started very slowly, as can often be the case in finals, and found themselves behind…1-2 to 0-0…after the early exchanges. They then started to find their feet and roared back into this game with some lovely passing moves which saw them level up at 1-2 a-piece midway through the first half.

A great response, indeed! It was score for score and point for point until the Black‘n’Ambers kicked onbefore half-time. They kicked over a few excellent scores that put them 0-3 up going in at the break…1-7 to 1-4. Bhí go maith is ní raibh go holc!

At the start of the second half scores were hard to come by as both teams worked extremely hard….covering hectares of ground….to ward off dangerous attacks. Then there was the key moment midway through the second half when, after a sustained period of Rock pressure and with The Gaeil barely hanging on, the Cillín boys, with a sudden forward surge, managed to find their way through The Rock defence and bagged a goal of their own.

The Greens now had the bit between their teeth and kicked a few points to open up a lead. The Connolly Park lads were not going away, however, and kept on fighting bravely to stay in touch…even scoring a couple of points.

They game was up for grabs and the temperature, tension and excitement rose as they entered the closing stages.

Then, as the Stack Club’s enthusiastic players were eagerly pressing forward to find scores, too much space was allowed to open up for the dangerous Na Gaeil forwards and….alas, alack, ochón agus mo bhrón….they picked off two further goals.

That put the caidhp a’bháis on The Rock challenge and put the game to bed! Comhghairdeachas le Foireann na nGael and to its coaches on a good victory.

‘Well done’ to the Austin Stack Club U13 boys on a fantastic performance and on fighting all the way to the finish.

They can build on that superb and polished performance and they can look forward with confidence to the rest of the summer.
