PEIL FAOI 9: (i) In our last GoGames challenge we had great football v St Senans. (iii) We expect to see you all in Connolly Park next Sunday (23ú Iúil) at 11am.

ALL-STARS: Last Sunday morning’s ALL-STARS session was brilliant as usual with lots of action….knees up, toes up, walking, swinging hands, jumping jacks, hopping, jogging, listening, watching, obstacles, football skills, etc. Mighty stuff! Newcomers welcome…just come along to The Rock Club, Connolly Park, on Sunday next (23rd July). (Cathal Ó Sé)

PEIL FAOI 10/11: (i) More Football-For-Fun at 10.50am next Sunday (23ú Iúil) i gCathair Sailí. Fáilte roimh chách.

(ii) Over a dozen U11 Rock boys played in the Munster U11 Football Blitz i Staid an Ghearaltaigh on Tuesday (18th). The Rock lads played v Moyvane, v Abhainn a’Scáil and v BK Plunketts. Very enjoyable…great football was played…our lads played really well. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. And the tour of the stadium was well received by our boys. BK Plunketts juvenile club was formed when two County Cork clubs, An Bóthar Buí and Cnoc na Groí, amalgamated (joined together).

The new team is named in honour of Horace Plunkett (1854 – 1932) who was the founder of the Co-operative Movement in Ireland. In 1889, Ireland’s first co-operative was established in Doneraile, County Cork, and the first co-operative creamery was opened in Dromcollogher, Co. Limerick. We have Lee Strand Co-op and Kerry Co-op based in Tralee. [BK = Boherbue and Knocknagree].

PEIL FAOI 13: (i)Training continues on Tuesdays from 5pm to 6.30pm and on Thursdays from 6.30pm to 8pm. (ii) Central League games fixed for last Sunday (16th July) had to be re-scheduled due to Kerry playing in Croke Park. (iii) Our B Team hosted Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane B on Friday 14th in Connolly Park and, unfortunately, we lost…3-13 to 0-9. (iv) Our A game v the John Mitchel Club is still awaiting a new date. (Dan Ahern)

PEIL FAOI 15: ‘Twas a tough week on the road for both our teams in the Central League! D’imríomar in aghaidh na Gaeltachta ar an gCéadaoin. (i) The A team had a hard game. After a very tight first 20 minutes when the hosts were leading by a single point we were, unfortunately, reduced to 14 players and this was really the turning point in the game.

Our boys did well to stick to the challenge but, faraor, An Ghaeltacht proved to be too strong and won the match. ‘Neart,’ arsa an dreoilín! Scór…An Ghaeltacht: 3-13; AdeS: 1-7. Foireann A: Seán Clifford; Jamie Casey, Brian Kavanagh, Maximilian Grzybowski; Eoin Mangan, Adam Johnson, Darragh Lyons; Jayden Moriarty, Alex Touhy; Tadhg Falvey, Rory Lynch, Denis Brassil; Jake Carmody, Jack Diggin. Subs: Óran O’Donoghue, Jack Shanahan.

(ii) On Friday our B team travelled to the John Mitchel Club for our second round of the Central League (Division 5A). Under testing conditions, due to the brutal weather, we did our best to challenge a team that, in the first half, was physically much stronger team than we were.

Unfortunately, we missed some scores from well-worked chances. Much credit must go to the boys who made their first start for this team. With no break in the weather we kept plugging away and, finally, we got some quick scores (goals) late in the second half to bring the gap back to a mere two points.

Unfortunately for us, the Mitchel Club boys held on for the win. Scór…Na Mistéalaigh: 4-8; AdeS: 5-3. Foireann B: Seán Clifford, Alex Darfoor, Fionn Cotter, Tadhg Sommers, Brian Kavanagh, Jamie Casey, Óran O’Donoghue, David Hobbert, David Mullins, Denis Brassil, Jack Shanahan, Joe Barry; Nathan O’Connor, Kyle Yoxall, Dean Courtney. Subs: Oisín Cotter, Ewan Canty, Darragh Lyons. Well done, boys, for bravely playing your hearts out until the end. Great effort, lads!

(iii) Training continued over the weekend. (iv) Our A team faces a tough away game this week (Wednesday 19th) in the Central League versus Laune Rangers. Team support would be greatly appreciated for this one. The next game for our B team has not been scheduled yet. We’ll shortly know the date! (Ger Hobbert)

JUST A THOUGHT: Clare and Galway – gone from the hurling championship! Should we, the GAA, consider a play-off for 3rd place in the championship? Would a bronze medal be valued in either county?

GAELTACHT: A note of gratitude from the parent of a club member who availed of the GAA Gaeltacht Scholarship through The Rock Club: ‘….the two weeks in Coláiste Íde are nearly finished. They had an absolute ball and really enjoyed both the classes side of it and the craic/céilí side of it. Go raibh míle maith agat. Aibhistín de Staic Abú!’
