PEIL FAOI 9: (i) Our Sunday morning football sessions in Caherslee (11am) will continue until the end of October and our 5.30pm Thursday sessions in Connolly Park will also continue until the end of October…‘that time of year…when yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang upon those boughs which shake against the cold bare ruined choirs…’

This very busy group of class players continues its Bracker O’Regan, Kevin Barry and Paddy Drummond Cup games. We travelled to Churchill for two very enjoyable games on Thursday. Exciting times for our peileadóirí Faoi 9!!

(ii) Unfortunately, due to the heavy rain last Saturday morning, we had to cancel our planned encounter with Austin Stack Club ‘legend’ Graham O’Connell’s U9 footballers from Monaleen. We’ll get the Limerick men down in the new year, le cúnamh Dé. (iii) We look forward to travelling to the annualCanty Cup Competition at the St Finbarr Club in Togher, Cork, on Saturday 14th October.(Tadhg Mac Mathúna)

ALL-STARS: Our All-Stars have recovered fully from the exertions of their great efforts at the Munster Inclusion Day in Mallow and everybody is looking forward to next Sunday’s (8th) 10am training session. Due to the unpredictable weather, we will continue our weekly sessions in The Green CBS Secondary School for the next few weeks as we finish out the season. If you and your child would like to join our All-Stars group, just come along. Buail isteach…beidh fáilte romhaibh. It is intended that our activities will help neurodivergent children to connect and flourish while playing football. (Cathal Ó Sé)

PEIL FAOI 11: (i) The Rock U11s played Ballymac at 11am on Sunday last in Caherslee and mighty football was played! (ii) Our ‘cup’ action continues with the John Galvin and the Garry Fernane Cup competitions at 6.30pm on Thursday in Connolly Park. (iii) U11 boys from the Monaleen Club, Limerick, are scheduled to visit The Rock on Saturday 21stOctober. (Colm Ó Mongáin)

UNDER 13s’ TRIP TO GALWAY: The inclement weather didn’t dampen the boys’ high spirits as we set off from Connolly Park for the Claregalway Football Tournament on Saturday morning last (30th)…with two teams.

We had a brief stop in Adare on route and arrived in Claregalway, on the banks of the River Clare, in good time for our opening game against Douglas (Cork). An afternoon of action progressed at a quick pace with further games against Louisburgh (Mayo), Claregalway and Dunmore McHales (Galway).

The end of the group stages saw both our teams looking forward to a shield final and cup final…no mean achievements! Both teams played their hearts out in their respective finals. However, they were unlucky and bitterly disappointed, having given of their best, not to be bringing home some silverware.

The downbeat mood didn’t linger long as, after a quick change and some light refreshments (provided by our generous Galway hosts), we began the journey home. The mood lightened as the boys enjoyed each other’s company and with the craic and banter in full flow the road home was shortened….giorraíonn beirt (30?) bóthar!

A supper stop at McDonalds, Limerick, refuelled all for the last leg of the homeward journey. The high spirits and camaraderie continued till we finally turned in for Connolly Park, a little over twelve hours after our early morning departure.

Thanks to the boys who travelled and on whose behaviour the Claregalway organisers were very complimentary.

Worthy ambassadors for the Austin Stack Club! Thanks to the Claregalway Club for the invitation and for putting on such an enjoyable afternoon of football. Thanks to the parents who helped us out on a busy afternoon.

Thanks to the club, courtesy of the Cheltenham fundraiser earlier in the year, for its support towards the travelling costs and buíochas le Tony Hennessy for the feed at McDonalds. Thanks to Power Travel for organising the bus and….a special word of thanks to our driver, John, for looking after us so well.

A great day out was had by all…lá dár saol…a day to remember! What a fitting finale to the 2023 season. Well done, all! (Dónal Ó hEachtheirn)

(ii)Congratulations to the B team boys on winning the Division 3 Town League Final against Ballymac in Connolly Park. Scór…AdeS B: 5-13; Ballymac B: 2-6. What a great end to the season for this great group of lads and coaches who have worked so hard since January!

They got their just rewards…coming out on top and bringing home the silverware after a great performance. It was a wise decision to move the starting time to 6pm, thus ensuring that the game was played in dry conditions.

The Stack Club lads went flying out of the blocks from the throw-in and played with fierce determination. They thundered into all-out action…picking off some excellent points and, in a moment of brilliance, their first outstanding goal.

As they were aware that they would be playing with the aid of a strong breeze, they realised that they needed to keep the scoreboard numbers rising. That they did and continued to score some lovely points as well as tacking on a couple of well-taken goals.

However, Ballymac grew into the game and got a goal of their own before half-time, leaving the score at 3-7 to 1-1 ag am an tsosa. All seemed well for The Rock!

Our players and mentors knew that Ballymac would come at them in the second half with all guns blazing. Yes, they did but the Black‘n’Amber boys’ defence stood up to the strong challenge with steely determination and our excellent forwards got some brilliant scores.

Ballymac, to their credit, never gave up and kept fighting to the finish; they succeeded in getting some great scores of their own. When the final whistle blew, the scoreboard read 5-13 to 2-6 in favour of The Rock Street Club boys.

Thanks to Ballymac for a very sporting game. Perhaps, the final result doesn’t fully reflect the great efforts by the wearers of the Blue‘n’Gold; they played good exciting football.

Thanks to the full Rock squad and to every player who played his part on the day and, indeed, throughout the year; they put in the hard yards in training and they put in excellent performances on the pitch.

A big ‘thank you’ to the coaches who have put in a huge effort with the lads and, ní nach ionadh (no wonder), the results have been seen on the playing pitch. The lads enjoyed their celebrations and, of course, their well-deserved pizza after the game. (Ed O’Regan)

LEE STRAND U14 TOURNAMENT: The 36th edition of the Austin Stack Club/Lee Strand Invitational Football Tournament was, once again, an outstanding success.

‘Well done’ to organisers, coaches, players and ‘backup staff’. Truly, a great achievement! 12 teams from 6 different counties took part. The Rock lads played very well in the Lee Strand Denis O’Connor Cup competition but were pipped by a fine Cillín team that, in turn, was defeated by Oranmore of Galway.

Na Piarsaigh of Cork won the Billy Breen Memorial Shield agus b’iad buachaillí na Gaeltachta a thóg Pláta Abbie Allen thar Ghleann na nGealt siar. (Ger Hobbert)

THE GREEN LOSE OUT ON PENALTIES: Tralee CBS challenged Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine (Neidín) in a Corn Uí Shúilleabháin senior football game at Strand Road on Friday last. It was a close, exciting and entertaining game.

The teams were level at full-time and were on par again at the end of extra time…0-18 (CBS) to 3-9 (Neidín). In a penalty shoot-out bhí an suvae ag Neidín! Heart-throbbing! These boys’ paths will surely cross again during the school year. Austin Stack Club boys on The Green panel: Donnacha Horgan (4), Fionnán Ryan (7), Thomas Deregee (12), Ronan Carroll (14), Ryan O’Driscoll (15),Olivier Lata (16), Seán Moynihan (24).
