2024: We wish everybody in The Rock…players, workers and their families…a peaceful and healthy 2024. Go mbeirimid beo ar an am seo arís.

AGM: The juvenile section of the club will hold the Annual General Meeting at 7pm on January 7th(Sunday) 2024. Everybody welcome.

MENTORING: If you’d like to be an Austin Stack Club coach/mentor/administrator/helper you might consider attending our AGM (juvenile). Anois do sheans nó riamh….now’s your chance!

SCÓR: The Tralee District finals of Scór na bPáistí will take place in February. The county final will take place on March 23rd. Competitions: a quiz team of four, solo singing, ballad group, recitation/scéalaíocht, music group, figure/set dancing.

AN GAELCHOLÁISTE – College Hurling: Tá sceitimíní mór ar dhaltaí an Ghaelcholáiste tar a mbua i gcluiche leathcheannais iománaíochta na Mumhan. They won this senior college Munster hurling semi-final (Corn Uí Chinnéide) by 0-1 after a hard-fought hour of good exciting hurling! Coláiste Mhuire, Eas Géitine, Contae Luimnigh: 1-9; Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí: 1-10. Éacht agus mórghaisce! Imríodh an cluichear an mBán Tír (Contae Chorcaí). Comhghairdeachas le Rory Ó Loinsigh, le Gavin Ó Cathasaigh, le Luke Ó Cathasaigh agus le gaiscígh uile fhoireann an Ghaelcholáiste sa chluiche leathcheannais seo! They are now through to the Munster U19 E Hurling Final. Will we see a few Munster HURLING medals coming up The Rock?

THE GREEN – College Football: (i) The Under 17 footballers of The Green are now looking forward to playing in the Frewen Cup competition (Scoileanna na Mumhan). It’s scheduled for Wednesday 7thFebruary and the winners will take on either Midleton CBS or St Flannan’s College, Ennis. The Rock representatives on the panel: Olivier Lata, Fionnán Ryan, Ronan Carroll, Aodhán Horgan and Ryan O’Driscoll.

(ii) We wish The Green Under 19s well as they prepare for their Munster quarter final game in the Corn Uí Mhuirí competition v Patrician Academy, Mallow, on Wednesday 17th January. The Rock boys on the panel: Thomas Deregee, Fionnán Ryan, Ronan Carroll, Olivier Lata, Donncha Horgan, Aodhán Horgan, Ryan O’Driscoll, Seán Óg Ó Brosnacháin. Could we have an all-Tralee U19 Munster football semi-final or final in 2024….An Fhaiche v Cnoc an tSeabhaic?

MOUNTHAWK – College Football: (i) Good luck to the Cnoc an tSeabhaic Under 19 Corn Uí Mhuirí lads in their preparations for their Munster quarter final match v Rochestown College, Cork, on Wednesday 17th January. Rockmen on the panel: Michael Tansley, James Fisher, Jack Murphy, Ben Murphy, Pádraig O’Halloran, Daniel Ó Ciarba, Paddy Lane and Noah Townsend. What excitement if we had an all-Tralee U19 Munster football semi-final or final in 2024….Mercy Mounthawk v The Green?

(ii) The Mercy Mounthawk U17 footballers are eagerly looking forward to their upcoming Munster U17 game. Our Rock boys on the panel: Ben Litchfield, Harry Murphy, Ben Murphy, Alex Touhy, Cormac Bastible, Eoin Murphy, Liam Sweeney-O’Connor, Jack Shanahan, Jack Diggin.

CLUB LOTTO: Thanks to all supporters and sellers of our club lotto tickets and especially to (i) O’Flynn Interiors, Rock Street, (ii) Hussey’s Deli and Newsagency, Prince’s Quay, (iii) The Burger Shack, Monavalley, (iv) Kirby’s Brogue Inn, Rock Street, (v) Siopa Chaoimhín de Barra, An Charraig and (vi) Paudie Commane’s Bookshop (PC Books), Rock Street.

LÁ AN DREOILÍN: ‘Well done’ to all who togged out and played football-for-fun in Connolly Park on St Stephen’s Day! Some nice football was played and a selector or two may have been on the lookout for talent! Thanks to Éamonn O’Reilly and colleagues for organising the match and the pitch. And the clash of leather and ash was once again heard at the Austin Stack Club. It was really ‘special’ to see Rockmen wielding camáns on our hallowed turf, albeit a long puck challenge. APPRECIATION: Congratulations to our Juvenile President, Tadhg McMahon, to whom a presentation was made in recognition of his many years of service to The Rock Club. Tim McMahon was also honoured for his great contribution to the club and particularly for his 16 years of dedication and hard work as Juvenile Chairperson.

Presentations were also made to Aidan O’Connor, Senior President, and to Nóirín de Paor, Uachtarán Roinn na mBan. All well-deserved presentations! Mórbhuíochas to John Murphy ofCelsius Menswear and to Ciarán Hennebery of Hennebery Sports for providing jackets and club crests.
